some opinions on hu and front speakers...
I'm looking on getting rid of the factory radio for a nice mp3 player. I already have rocford fosgate FRC1369 6x9 3 ways in the back which sound really nice, so that is saying, only thing I would really like to change now is the stock front speakers and a nice head unit. Right now I'm set mostly on an alpine CDA9811 as I can get it for $244 link. Always thought of alpine having good hu's. Or a pioneer DEH-p7f00mp link . WHat do you guys think, both are reasenable price, below $250 range, and withing $10 of eachother, pioneer being cheaper. I want something that can deliver clean sound with nice base without an amp, for now, with a possibility to apgrade to an amp, depenging how happy I am with the sound level and quality of the HU.
ANd One more thing, speakers for the front I've farly much decided either kicker or Rockford fosgate 6 1/2, I'm leaning toward the kickers as they can drive more power, but the rockford fosgates I have now sound really nice, and I'd expect the same from the new ones.
BTW, thanks for any help.

Yeah Alpine's have developed a very respectable reputation for their products. Everyone I know who has put an Alpine headunit in their car was very pleased. As for the front speakers, no matter which brand you choose, I would highly recommend dishing out the extra cash for components. I have Polk EX3 components in the front doors and they sound absolutely incredible.

You can get an Alpine head unit for $199 at crutchfield and it has 4 volt preouts!! I believe it is the 9807. The high volt preouts are esp. good if you plan on adding amp(s) in the future, providing a cleaner signal from the head unit to the amp or crossover. Otherwise, either one is a good head unit. IMO, I like the Pioneer display, but love the Alpine sound of mine. It wouldn't be fair to say which of the two sounds better because I have never done a side by side comparison.

I have the DEH-P750MP, and I absolutely love it. LOTS of bass for a head unit. I payed $214 plus shipping for it on eBay. It is my fourth Pioneer HU and I have never had a problem with any of them (except when one was stolen). I think any high quality speaker will sound pretty good up front.

I like the screen on the pioneer, but I don't like the layout quite as much as the alpine, guess I'm used to driving around in friends cars, and most of them have alpines. Plus the tilt screen is a big plus when changing cds and such, not worring about opening and closing it yourself, or am I'm misunderstanding and the pioneer is also eletronic, not manual. I'm leaning toward the alpine, unless someone else can give me a push toward something else.
Speakers I'd get components, but I'm not sure if I want to spend so much money on the sound system right now. I have to get the clutch changed also, so I'm guessing a set of rfs would be nice up front too, as they work really nice in the back, I owuld get rf commponents, only that they are slightly too deep, at least the 6 1/2.
