Speaker Options??
What size/brands of speakers have people put in their stock locations of an MP5? I want to replace the stock speakers to get better sound, but don't want to make any major modifications or change the stock receiver. Any input is appreciated!!

I did 6.5 components up front & 6.5" in the rear. All Polk. I think the Polk components or the Infinity components are good consumer level speakers that sound great. Check outProtege5 Online Speakers for info on replacing them.

I have speakers up for sale on ebay right now, check the forsale/wanted section for the link. Any of the DEI Pro+ line will suit your needs perfectly. I also have amps too.
The only reason i'd suggest the Studio line for the fronts, is that the depth is less and you could use a 6.5" w/a small adpater ring. Admittedly, my door panels buldge, but only i notice it i actually fit a set of baffles too, dyna mat, the whole nine yards. I should get some pics up on the site one of these days, and my custom 3 way set-up in the front.....but ya need a 1990 dash to do it The FInger

Nothing but JL Audio. Gotta love quality. Mb Quarts are also very nice along with Oz. But Oz is VERY expensive. Oh and Boston Coustics get any of those.

Alls i'm saying, is that for price vs quality, you get a whole lotta bang for your buck with DEI. I personally use the Studio's up front and rear, 600d mono sub amp pushing 3 MTX subs and the 500 4ch amp pushing the F&R studios
(...also admittedly the CompX subs are pricey....i'm saving...)

I don't know if any of you have heard Concept subs but they are great. Concept is a fairly new company but their subs are terrific. I suggest you listen to them if you ever see them at your nearest audio store.

JL Audio
what's happening everyone? okay, my choices for speakers? jl audio is my number one choice. they absolutely kick @ss! however, dei is a solid line as well! directed makes thumping bass and is very well made. my last choice would be kicker. the only problem is, they cost too frickin' much!!! my separates in my grand prix really kicked @ss, but i felt it was over-priced. here is a little list on what i think is the most bang for your buck:
1) jl audio; directed (dei)
2) mb quart
3) polk; infinity; kicker (over-priced but clean sound)
but this is only my opinion...

Specs
btw, i think canada and the us have different specs for the speaker sizes. i think they're (canada) running 4.25 in the fronts? i'm really not sure. american specs are 5x7f and 6.5r.
shawn, concept subs rock! just curious, has anyone heard the fusion line? i think they are out of new zealand or australia. i heard they are solid.

Hey Darryl, I e-mailed you a couple days ago about gettin new speakers for my car at mazdaspeedwest@hotmail.com, did you get it?

My P5 (canadian spec) took 6x8 in the front and 6.5 in the back (it would be easier to fit 5x7's in the front). I've heard people say they have 5.25's all around, so check what you have before you buy I guess!

I really doubt that Canada and the US have different sized stock speakers. The Protege sedan uses the same 5x7/6x8 front door size as the Protege 5. The sedan uses 6x9 rear speakers in the rear deck. The Protege 5 uses 6.5 rear speakers in the doors. 5x7 and 6x8 are essentially the same speaker size, it's just a matter of matching the correct bolt pattern to the car. Other sizes can be substituted with adapters, or a little custom work.
