speakers on my protege

I have a couple questions about my protege...

first of all it is a new protege. ES-GT 2003.
-I was wondering what type of speakers are in these models?
-what size are the speakers in these models?
-my protege is leased. I was wondering if putting in new speakers in the doors, and rear would affect the warranty?
-Which speakers are recomended to be put in proteges if upgrading?
-And how hard is it to do it yourself?

thanks for any help

Chris

6x8's up front, and 5-1/4's in the rear (though 6.5's fit, but you'd have to trim back the plastic rain-guard which would be bad for lease purposes)

Speakers are fairly easy, but they do require removing your door panel, and possibly cutting into the stock speaker-wire (I'm pretty sure they make adapters to turn the stock plug into 2 seperate wires you can connect to an aftermarket speaker, but you'd want to have them on hand before taking your door panel off for sure.

Nowthen, thatsaid, What are you looking to accomplish? A bit better sound than stock? or are you planning on putting in something nice? I guess the biggest thing is if you're gonna run a sub, and possibly an amp for your front speakers as well. With the stock stereo power, getting new speakers is not always an upgrade, as alot of speakers will take more power to run, and wind up being weaker in the end. Aftermarket decks are fairly simple to do, and There's a couple kits for spacing out the 2din opening to a single. And this can all be done with adapters, etc soasto not mess up your stock deck, or wiring. Check around and see what you seem to feel like you want to accomplish, I especially recommend this forum. http://protege5.com/vbb225/forumdisplay.php?f=11 It's much more active than this and has a BUNCH of very helpful folks inthere.

Actually Poseur he has a sedan so with that we get some 6x9's in the back deck.
And currently no 5 1/4 in the doors its ok becuse there is a hole and everything all you need to do is add the speaker.

I recomend going into the local stores and listening to the diffrent speakers that they have. Your current head unit has been measured at 18 watts rms, if I remember right so its as stong or stonger then some of the after market ones, I would not recomend an upgrade untill after you replace the speakers becuase they are the real bottle neck.

The are very easy to install the toughest part is taking off the rear deck or the door pannels but even then its just a bunch of clips so its more time consoming then hard. After that just remember striped to striped solid to solid wire.

Just dont buy some crappy no name speakers if they advertise 400watts or something stupid like that, becuase your using stock deck power just get a set that has less rms power handeling.

Pepboys is running a sale on pioneer 6x9's $50 for a really nice set if you listen to the competition you should be albe to find one you like, becuase they are all being run off ordinary head units.
