Anyone know how to take them off? I bought a set of indiglo gauges for my car. I took out the gauge cluster and had everything removed, but I cannot figure out how to remove the needles to set the new faces on the cluster. Anyone figured this out yet?

 

this what I know for sure.....a lot of people have done this....they bought the face you have....and have broken the gas gage and temp gage needles trying to get them off. they are on there really good.....you have to pry them off with incredibly EVEN presure on all sides to get them off without breaking them...... SO proceed at your own risk.....is there a shop in your area that does this kind of work that you can take them to and have it done? if so....it might be worth the bucks to have the work done...and someone else liable if the needles break. BTW....you can NOT go to mazda and just buy the needles. you get to buy a whole new gage cluster.....with is NOT cheep.

 

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE NEEDLES! They are bonded on the shafts permanently. If you do get them off, (which I doubt you can do without breaking them) the shafts will move slightly and you will lose the calibration. The gauge pod is sold as a unit. I'm still trying to source a gauge repair place to do mine. I only got the fuel gauge. I wasn't even trying to remove the needle, just trying to slide the indiglo cover over the needle after enlarging the hole in the indiglo slightly. Hardly any pressure and I was working very carefully knowing how brittle these things are. The gauge pod is approximately $340 depending on your dealer. I'm hoping to find a shop that can just sell me the gauge itself. If you are very careful with the face, you can remove it and get to the actual individual gauges behind it. Mazda won't sell the pieces to us unfortunately. I'll post it if I find someone that will sell parts or can repair the pod.

 

UPDATE:

I got the gauge faces on. I didn't want to take the needles off, so I cut the faces. It doesn't look bad at all, IMO. I don't have the wiring done yet but I'm planning to have that done tomorrow. I will take pictures when everything is compelte. So far, so good.
