Steering Wheel Swap

Steering Wheel Swap
Since I'm in the midst of sound proofing my entire car and currently have it dissassembled, it's got me thinking about other possible improvements.
I've long considered the three spoke steering wheel much nicer looking than my stock '01 four spoke, and wondered if anyone knows whether you can safely swap out the old one for an '02 onward. My main concerns are:
*Airbag function. As long as the swapped wheel bag will work normally, I'd consider the swap.
*The cruise control functions. As many of you may know, the cruise control functions on all '01's (and likely earlier models) are controlled through a lame control stock (which includes a dumb-*** switch that is always either on or off-- That means if you leave cruise on and forget about it, it will stay on. Forever. Just like GM products. I hate that.). What I'm concerned with is whether the control couplings will fit together the same for the three spoke wheel.
Anyone know whether this procedure is safely possible, and reasonably easy?
Thanks!
