Agreed... for $200 you can have four decent speakers or one medium grade HU. The decent speaker speakers can then be complemented by a better HU when funds allow it. The other way around does not work nearly as well.

The only reason the HU went first in my case is that I already had a decent one from the last car. Heck, if the speakers had been the same size I would have had it made :)

I went the route of nice HU first and now the stock speakers are absolutely a joke. But i like it more this way, cause now im motivated to get new speakers. So I've got a question for you all about speakers... 2-way vs 3-way?? Which do you think?

I went with two ways, and separate tweeters up front. Mostly a money issue, plus I think the only speakers worth 3-way designs are 6x9s or larger.

2-way vs. 3-way ...
Well, strictly speaking if you want the best quality audio you won't even consider 2-way for starters. A full system of separate component speakers will give the best separation and imaging as you can place them in the correct spots around the cabin.
Of course, that gets expensive quickly and you have to do drilling and re-wiring of your car, but again if you're serious about sound you'll want to upgrade the speaker cables anyway.
Myself, I'm willing to sacrifice some quality of sound in the car and am seriously considering getting some Clarion 3-ways (SRC5733 .. SRR1633) which are pretty flexible about power inputs judging from the specs, and will give better range of response since I don't really want to wire up tweets or a sub either.

I had the infinity references in My Civic and when i bought my protege 5 I went with a better speaker. I would recommend some MB Quart speakers for your car. They have a titanium done tweeter and sound awesome. I almost bought the Polks from circuit city, but the MB Quarts were a little more and sound much better. I paid less than this for the speakers at an audio shop.
Do not pay Best Buy or Circuit City to install speakers. They charge like $30/pair and then charge $20/door if they need to remove the door panel. $30+30+20+20+20+20=$140. I paid $40 at a car audio shop where I bought the speakers. Got much better speakers for the same price including the installation. I would consider these if you have the funding and local resources.
