I've got a 2000 protege dx... two times now i've seen proteges with antennas that seem to be retracted or something where as mine is always way up out there. I don't know what year they were but they were newer than mine because they had the new style headlights. Do the new proteges have a retracting antenna or is it just shorter?

 

My LX 2002's antenna retracts all the way.

 

i have a 99 es, and you can push the antenna into the socket to retract it. Horrible reception when you do, but great for car washes.

If and when I get my car painted Im gonna have my antenna shaved and put a 16-valve(VW) antenna on

 

the guy at mpsport.com sells billet shorty antennas for ours cars, im not sure if they fit all but I knw they do on the p5 and he has em in billet aluminum black and has 2-3 different lengths.

They are like 15-18 a piece.
Took like 2 months for mine to ship but it was going from canada to Arizona and I heard packages going through the border take alot of extra time.
