Question Sub suggestions????

Ok so heres the deal. Currently I am running (2) Rockford Fosgate HE 10's, I have come across (2) JL Audio 12W3's....One of them is blown. So should I get rid of my 10's and use the single 12 or just sell the 12 and keep the 10's? Opinions please.

Thanks

sell all 3 and get one of the following 12" subs:

adire shiva
elemental designs k series 12"
blueprint 03 12"
adire brahma 12"
idq 12"
idmax 12"

how much power can u give the subs? what size box do u wanna use? how much do u wanna spend (or can get for those 3 subs)?

I am trying to spend as little as possible. I have a 300 w amp, and I was thinking that a single sealed box for the 12 should be a lot smaller than the dual 10 box I have now.

u can get a 1-1.5 cf box for a single 12, depending on the sub

if u sell ur 2 10's and ur 12, u could prolly get more money than u'd have to spend (ie make money while upgrading ur system)

the adire shiva is only $125 and will be much better than any of those 3 subs...the edesign k12 is 150 or less and will also beat those subs

so if u wanna save money, try to sell those subs and box and get one of those 2 subs and a new box from speakerhole.com (make sure to get the kind made of 3/4" mdf)

I can only say that ditching the RF subs is a great idea. I have a Puch HX2 10", and I seriously hate it. It only bumps with a lot of power, and just doesn't get very loud. And the SQ is kinda crappy too. For high-power, SPL applications, it'd probably be good, but for those of us who don't play only test tones, they kinda suck.

Why not just try the JL and see how you like it?

for starters....welcome back dude! long time no see!!

and I think HIHO has a good idea....personally I think you would be happy with the JLAudio Sub....I love mine.....I have a single 10 stuffed in the back of mine since we last saw one another....in fact I did a total upgrade to the system...

but...anyway...give the 12 a shot...and if you don't like it as much as your 10's....sell the 12 setup. shouldn't be that hard to do.

Man...seems like no one likes RF...Honestly I've been very happy with them. I guess it is time to talk to momma, and see if she will let me spend some money. Thanks for the all of the help.

On a side note: I've been in the shadows watching everybody, Joe. I've just been busy working 40 - 50 hrs /wk and going to nite school for my MCSE. Thanks for the welcome back!

THe 300 watts is perfect for the W3 and since you have them both already, its a great combination when compared to spending more money.

Try the W3, if its not enough or what your looking for them your not really out anything.

Update!

Ok, So Friday (on my way home from work) I stopped off and bought an enclosure for the W3. I do Like the sound, and it makes my chest rumble. I am going to drive with it in for a couple of days and see how I like it. A couple a days should be enough time to go through some of my music collection.

So far so good.

I first started out with My Kenwood eXcelon Amp 300 rms, 600Peak. I ran a single 10 Circle Solo Baric. Hit good. Box was messed up and sub was bout blown. Still sounded good in a sealed box. I since sold the sub and kept the amp. I went to TWEETER in Glenburnie and picked up a JL 10W0 in a JL box. they call it the Power Wedge. its in a 1cubic foot sealed enclosure and was $169 + tax. hits good at 300rms. Says 125watts on the sub but im pushin 300. JLs can handle alot. Now this is the W0. Lowest model out there. the W3 sounds better and the 12W0 and W3 sound awsome. If u get the Single 12W3 ull be very impressed. Id run 300-400rms into that sub. It will hit hard and give u some bumping.

For harder and louder hittin bass id go with the 12L5 Square Solo in the KICKER box or the 10L5 in the Kicker box. The 10 sounds like a 12 and 12 sounds like a 15. Both his TREMENDOUSLY hard for a SINGLE sub. My friend TJ in my car club put the 10L5 in back of his Mustang. and blows us all away. Now my Pres of car club has competition between him and his 2 12'' Kicker COmps vs the 10SOlo whcich is soo much cleaner and Louder!!!!

DO what u want. Id go Solo 12'' or the 12W3's!!!

thats my input.... if it was useful

Ok so what I have noticed so far is....

Before - My spoiler would rattle.

After - My license plate rattles like I should be in the getto.

I need some dynomat or something cheaper to make the rattle go away.

fosgate

i hear you guys on rockford fosgate. Before I started working for sony, I dropped like $300 on a punch power hx2 15" from a local stereo shop. I ripped out my back seats so I could make a HUGE box (to RF's specs) which I wasn't too happy about. The box was ported with a 4" port (tuned to RF's spec's as well) and it sounded horrible. Any note under 62 hertz, and the cone would lose any control, flap in and out like a mad man, and there was tons of cancelation from the backside of the cone (even though I built a box exacly how they recommended-I'll never listen to a speaker manufacturer again on box specs). And before I had a chance to build a better box, one of the voice coils fried (operating at like 250 rms, when it was rated at 300 rms). I'll never buy another RF product again.
