Suggestions for Subwoofer Placement

I'm looking for some advice/suggestions on possible places to install a sub. I have a 2002 P5 and have already replaced the factory head unit with an Alpine unit. The improvement in sound was amazing just doing that, even with the factory speakers still in place. It would be nice to have a little better bass though. I'm not looking for pounding sound that can be heard for miles, just good, clean sound. However, I don't want to give up any cargo space in the hatch, so I'm looking for ideas on where to install a sub and still have use of the hatch.

Thanks.

A single ten could help out alot and still leave space. You may want to go with something like the Infinity Basslink that has an amp built in so you do not have to take up anymore space with an amplifier. Bazooka tube may help but I think the Basslink sounds better and gets a little deeper. We installed one under the ext. cab bench seat of a Chevy Fullsize Truck and it sounded great. Also you can mount it horizontal or vertical for more space.

if you already have an amp in the car...and you are just adding the sub....you could try out a JL AUDIO Powerwedge, mine is a 10"....they fit nicely in the back of a p5 right up against the back of the seats and they take up very little room.....I have one in mine and it really dosn't take up much space.....

here is a idea for you. mount the amp(w/cap) somewhere out of the way(like under a seat) then in the rear, but a banana connection on one side of the paneling and run a cable from that connectino to the box, this way if you need to take it out to haul something, you unplug one thing, and boom, its gone.

THAT is pretty much the way my set up is....the amp is under the front seat....and the connections on the amp are thumb screws...and you can remove them really easy....tape it up....and set the sub out....BUT....my subbox does't take up that much space and you can still carry LOTS of stuff in the back...here is a pic of the sub in the back.

I'm planing to do the same thing, I want to have a great sound system but I also want to have my cargo room available for when I need to use it.
-SirNuke, how did you attach the enclosure? velcro?

no...you can't see them in that pic very well....but the sub sits JUST inside the attachment points for the child safety seat anchors.....I got a couple little D rings and attached them to the sides of the sub box....then my wife made some straps that go from the D rings to the attachment points on the back of the seats.....its nice and snug up aginst the rear seats and doesn't go anywhere.

my setup is pretty simillar to sir nuke's
except by sub box is the same width as the small side of the rear seats... so you can fold down the larger side without taking out the sub... it's only a JL 10" but has plenty of boom etc...

my amp is also under the front seat... there's heaps of room under there...

this is exactly how my setup will be as soon as i get enough money, but right above the box i will have a female banana connector so i can take the sub out and have no wires to mess with

Hey, thanks much for the suggestions. This is great. I really appreciate the photos too. Nothing better than being able to see what the installation looks like!!
I especially like the idea of being able to quickly disconnect the sub for those times when I need the entire cargo area.
Much appreciated!

I can't even imagine 4 8W3's in my car.... the 3 6W0's are a real treat. Most people don't believe me when I tell them what they've been hearing... until they see them!

They simply amaze me every time I get it the car. Great value for the $$$ spent.

Enjoy,
Jim
