Tips for waxing
Let's just start with... I've NEVER waxed a car before!!! I've had my MP5 for about a month now and I hear people talk about waxing being the best thing for the exterior. What is required (at the cheapest cost) to wax the exterior and how is this done... to this day, all I've ever done is wash my car. Thanks in advance!!

Dude...check out www.meguiars.com. At the top of the screen they have something called "Paint Care Prescription". Check that out. It will tell you what you need to do based on where you live and other variables. Pretty cool. Of course it also recommends their products which are very good.

all good advice......read read read.....the one thing I have learned in all my years...and that is a few more than most here....is that you can NOT spend too much time keeping the outside of your car clean.....and I tend to clean/wax mine about twice as often as it really needs it....the paint just stays that much more protected...
its kind of like why most of us change our oil every 3000 miles insted of the 5000 or 7500 or whatever it is the factory says is OKAY....
its cheap insurance that your car will shine and look as new as can be for many years to come.
Just a suggestion....get you a ziplock bag...and an old wash cloth....get the washcloth damp and put it in the ziplock bag and put it in the back of your car....if you EVER come out to see some bird crapped on your car....or some other piece of nature on it....clean it off right away with the damp cloth.....it certainly wouldn't hurt if you cleaned the buggs off AS SOON AS POSSIBLE EVERY DAY..... just so you know....as the bugs that are stuck on the nose of your car start to decompose their little bodies actually release acids which can etch your paint and make it look like CRAP.....just some information for you.

Can someone write a short step-by-step of how the wash/wax/protect their car. What do you use, and how do you use it? I don't want to just go to the store and pick something up without knowing how to use it. Thanks for the advice!!!

I am surprised no one mentioned carecareonline.com. He is very specific on the hows and whys. He also sells many different brands of products. I followed his advise for my dark blue passat and black Protege - with excellent results. Just remember, no one company makes the best carwash soap, glaze/polish and wax. I have found that a good canubra wax gives a deeper/richer shine than a polymer wax- on a dark colored car. your baby can never be too clean!
