Tweeters

Hey guys, I need some help in the audio section
I am not very famaliar with the sound system of the protege
so here it goes

I like the sound of the stock speakers of the protege, I just want to add some kick to it, so I am not looking to putting mega subs and speakers on the car.

What I have in mind is to Add tweeters in the mirror(which I need to know the dimensions from you guys) and move the front speakers in the space in the back doors. Then buy some good speakers from the store, and put them in the front doors and put bass blockers on them. What do you guys say
What do you reccommend for the tweeters and front speakers
Is it a good idea or plain stupid ?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

if you like the sound of the factory radio, then i'm sorry
start off by buying a new HeadUnit. this will help the most. then buy a set of components for the front(either 5.25 or 6.5).(the midrange woofer and tweater are seperate) then buy a rear set of 6X9's. then add a amp to those speakers, and if that isn't enough kick for your, then get a single 10 sub. also i wouldn't recommend putting the tweater by the mirror, try to keep it as close to the midrange as possible, this way the highs and lows get to you ear at the same time, i would recommend putting the tweaters right about the front grill and have them firing upwards towards your ear.

Well, it seems that the tweeter at the mirror level then won't work. I can't get a new HU because I just installed a 6cd changer, indash (OEM model that comes on MPV's and higer end mazdas) two months ago, and I like it and the color scheme in the car. However, I appreciate your advice on the other stuff. I spoke to people already about the tweeter stuff and read posts about it, and the best thing they said was like you mentioned.

But yeah, I think all those mods you mentioned will be enough for me

It's not stupid, but you might find it slightly easier to do this instead- Buy a decent pair of seperates, that is instead of the tweeter being installed in the center of the woofer, they are seperate units with a cross over.
Some decent seperates will go far in giving you the sound you as looking to get in the front, and the tweeters and the woofers will "match" sonically and sound good together. You will found the crossover that handles what frequencies go where are far superior to bassblockers for controling what goes where in terms of sound.
Before setting your heart on the sail planes, that little paltfrom on the back of the corner where the mirror is, install the speakers so you can move the tweeter around, then tape it in various different locations to see where the best sound to your ears comes from.
That would be another important idea, go listen to as many different brands of speaker as you can, and find some YOU like the sound of. You will live them, so get some you really dig the sound of.
The front speakers are 5 x 7 ovals stock and the rear doors are built for 6.5 inch round speakers, sorry the idea of moving the old ones back won't work easily. The same applies for the rear deck, it is designed for 6.9 ovals. No easy fits there, which is why once folks get started they replace all the speakers.
The stock speakers are astonishingly simple, paper cones and very light magents. The are built by Pioneer which probably gives them the tone that you like.
The other dilemma you will run into it that when you improve the speakers, the stock headunit does not have too much of a onboard amp. I have benched one, and it pushes about 8 watts clearly, and distorion gets to truly audible levels at no more than 12 watts where clipping kicks in. Low power won't kill your new speakers, but distortion will!
Don't dispair though- the stock headunit is a fine signal source unit. You can add on am amp to it and make a really nice system out of it.
I don't want to everwhelm you right out of the slot, but thought that seperates for the front will be your best investment for the dollar.
Let us know please what you decide on, and don't heisitate to ask more questions-
Good Luck!

since you have the 6disc changer, buy a 4 or 5 channel amp and use the speaker inputs on the amp and have it run your aftermarket speakers, b/c aftermarket speakers don't like 10 watts max

Unfrotunatly, I have to disconnect the internet, but I will print those replies and discuss with some friends to see if they could do it. They have a system in their trucks/cars. I will visit some stores and hit you guys back on what I will decide to do and see if you guys agree or not if it is a good idea

Thanks for all your help
I will reply within a few days with my descision, but please
let all the replies keep coming

The most important thing here is the budget - how much are you willing to spend on the whole shebang? And - are you going to do the install work yourself? You could build a budget-minded system that won't "pound" but will be 100000% better than stock for less than $300, IMHO; Four channel amp, two sets of speakers, and some wiring. Simple and efficient. You could even just replace the two front speakers, and use a 2 channel amp for an even cheaper system.

Let us know what the budget is, and we'll see what we can do for you.

Oh man, you just helped me out
I couldn't decide what to get because
I didn't know how much I want to spend

I want to spend no more than $300 everything
I might go a little above, but not like $325 or something

I know it is not much of $ but I am a student, and
$$$ is not alot these days
