Nice looking setup! If I ever got one (but at $85 USD...) I'd definitly put an Oil Temp in there. How hard was the install? Looks like you have to rip the whole column off or something. Let me know.

Otherwise, very nice setup indeed. Looks very stock. Would compliment a 3 gauge pod on the A-Pillar quite nicely...

Yeah, that's pretty much the idea Maxx Mazda..

The A Pillar pod is still being designed by the same company. I'm assuming it will be out about the same time as the steering column pod, maybe a few weeks later.

The install? It took all of 2 minutes to unscrew 3 little screws under the steering column and pull off the top section and replace it with the new one. It's a cinch!!

I think they said something about maybe offering it with complete with a gauge for around $130. I dunno, what do you guys think? Sounds like a deal to me

Autometer makes small tachometers. But I would buy something bigger and put it closer to your line of sight if you are wanting to do redline shifting. Why not just get a gauge cluster from a ES or LX? You will get a nice big tachometer. Then you can put a cool gauge in the pod.

Oh yeah, I would not mind one bit if they came out with an A-pillar pod (in grey).

I have a 2000 w/ the dark grey interior and live in CA. Is there a possibility that it would come in the dark grey? If not, I was planning on painting the interior black anyways so it won't make too much difference to me

Looks pretty good but I would prefer an A-pillar pod. You just can't fit enough above the steering wheel. I need a few.

You have 2 choices on finding them. One is to go to Mazda (expensive). The other is to go to scrapyards or do a search on e-bay. I know that most scrapyards sell gauge clusters for around $75. So I would expect to spend at least that (and spend a while looking for the part in the first place). Whatever you do don't let the person at the scrapyard take it off. Half the time they will destroy the part you want. Take it off yourself.

The gauge pod looks great!

But, back to a previously posted question... does it come in gray? ALL 1999-2000 ES models have gray interiors.

Code:
Here's a color breakdown:
1999-2000 DX / LX Beige or Gray
1999-2000 ES Gray only
2001-2002 DX / LX Beige or Gray
2001-2002 ES Charcoal only
2002 MP3 Charcoal only
2002 P5 Black only

If I rememeber correctly the 2002 DX/LX have the black steering wheel too. I'm not sure about the 4-spoke steering wheel in the 2001 versions though.

Which? The 2001 or the 2002? Because they all have the black 3-spoke steering wheel in 2002. Would not make much sense to have different colored plastic behind it.

All 3rd Generation Protege's have color-keyed steering wheels and column covers (i.e., same color as interior).

==UPDATE==

I just spoke with the company, and asked them about the colors of the pod, and told him about all the questions you've been asking and he said this, "We are currently making the pods in all colors available for the 3rd Gen Proteges."

So, I guess that takes care of that. He also said the A-Pillar replacement will be ready shortly after the steering column pod. Couldn't get a price on those yet, but they did say that it will be a replacement pillar, not a cheap cover. Their goal is to make everything look factory spec it seems.

I'll keep ya posted!!
