What components in your Protege? And some other questions...

What components do you Protege owners have? Currently I have a set of Infinity Reference 6800cs 5x7 components in the front, powered off a Kenwood Excelon KDC-x879. The reason I ask is because I plan on getting an amp and sound deadening the doors, and I'm thinking, while I'm at it, maybe I should get some better speakers to go with the amp. I haven't decided what amp to get, but I'm thinking around 70-100 watts RMS.

Do 6.5" speakers fit in my front doors?

How many watts RMS can a P5 alternator handle?

I'm running JL Audio amps is my P5. A 500/1 for 2-10 JL Audio subs and a 300/2 for JL Audio seprates in the front doors. The rear door speakers are Audiobahn triaxials and run off the Eclipse head unit. I put a Dakota Digital voltage gauge at the in line from the amp power lead and the battery and see anywhere from 13.2 to 14.0 volts constantly. Of course it depends on if the lights or A/c is on. The JL Audio amps can run with as little as 11.0 volts. I set the gauge to flash a warning at 11.2.

This doesn't completely answer your questions, but will give you an idea of what is capable.

Good luck

I've got Alpine Type-R seperates up front; Alpine Type-R coaxial out back; 10" sub; Alpine Flex5 (several years old) amp; Dynamat extreme throughout all running off the stock head unit with RCA connectors.

The Dynamat made a HUGE difference, particularly with the mid-bass from the Type-R's and the bass from the sub.

The installer can't believe the sound of my system with the stock head (I like the looks of stock- cleaner dash and keeps the thiefs uninterested!).

Recent addition for Father's Day (thanks, Ben!): XM satellite radio with extremely clean install from my guys at Long Radio- looks as close to OEM as you can get for the portable XM unit. And, it's everything they say about it- sounds much better than radio and almost as good as CD!
