wondering about you guys that have removed the amber reflector in you 02 protege sedan's headlights. i did a search already, but i'm wondering how many people have done this. how difficult is the bumper removal and what kind of time am i looking at spending to do this(just the labor, not the drying time)? i'm a little bit scared cuz' i don't want to break anything. thanks.....

 

I was thinking of doing the same thing and was also wondering if anyone has had any experience with this.

really to get that amber reflector out u need to open up the headlight assembly...in order ot that u need to heat up the edges with either a heat gun or hair dryier...score the sealent with a razor then separate them..and knock out the amber reflector and replace it wit some type of reflective tape or just slap the bulb in f u dot care.....sounds easier than done..believe me.....tried it and i had no patience have to attempt again..

 

sounds to me like baking the headlight assembly to melt the sealant is the way to go though, from what i've read(10 minutes @ 175 deg.). what about the bumper. how hard is that to take off to get to the headlight?

 

yea, i was trying to mod the bumper light. I was even thinking about it cuz it didnt look like a "removable" reflector. plain and simple though, i fuked up, hahaha.

 

I looked at a general car parts store and walmart and did not find any reflective tape.

Does anyone know where I can get this stuff? I want to replace the amber reflector with a clear reflector.

 

Avery makes clear reflecting tape, they have it in their vinyl department.

3M does too, just visit their sites.

 

i reomoved the orange in my gf's 02 civic...there is a how to DIY at www.2k2civic.com ....its the same concept for the sedan!

 

Well I found one for the 2k1 and its different for a Protege. The amber IS the reflector. Whilst on a civic, the amber is just a cover on top of the reflector.

If there is another one that I missed let me know.


As for 3M and Avery, well 3M has stuff to put on clothes that reflects light and I couldnt find anything on Avery's site. Thanks for the help though.

 

reflective paint maybe? or an incandescent paint or something, i don't know. but once you bake that assembly, did you think about re-attatching the lens to your housing after putzin around with your housing? i'm sure this could be done properly, but you may want to look into spending a little more than just 10 minutes to do the entire thing. housing will come apart safely without melting plastics by LIGHT baking at 150 to 165 in 10 minutes, just play with it a little. as far as re-attatching, if the sealant won't adheve back on, try a little rubber cement around the corners, reliable and safe way of doing that.. hope this helps

Thats ok, its chrome on your protege behind the orange reflector... itll look just like a P5 headlight
