Will good speakers just do the job?
Hi all,
Im new to this forum and have been reading up on a lot of helpful hints and tricks. Im from Australia and I own a 06 mazda maxxsport.
I would really like to install an amp+sub but if anyone knows if it is ok to just get 4new speakers for the doors and that will make the sound quality better then the doggy stock ones ( trying to save a lilltle money with speakers being on special)? Will that help level the distortion im sure everyone has cranked the music up when you first got the mazda and it petty much was fuzz music. Also, i had 2 kickers installed in the fronts but a friend told me the output was too high and the stereo couldn't handle the speakers?
look foward to some professional opinions.

well i dont have expert opinion, but a good set of aftermarket speakers will provide a noticable improvement. the cones on a typical OEM speaker are made of paper with a foam surround. most aftermarket products are special treated paper, polypropylene, or some other synthetic blend, which provides you with better range and resistance to the elements. a rubber surround is more durable and provides better range of motion.
if your friend was talking about power handling, the stereo may have a lower wattage than the speakers's RMS, which doesnt affect anything. your speakers will just be underpowered and not perform to its full potential. most new aftermarket stereos have a built-in amplifier (usually around 100watts) that is more than the OEM stereo and enough to power 4 speakers.
your best scenario is of course to install amp+sub, but you can install a new stereo with 4 new speakers first. look for component speakers for the front for a distinct highs/lows setup. if you like the sound you can keep it, and if you feel it needs more lows and more power you can add the amp and sub easily. hope this helps.
