Window tinting

Hey, I was just curious as to how much it would cost to get the windows tinted on my MP5. I know it's gonna be different everywhere, but I'm just looking for a ballpark figure. Thanks for any help you all can provide.

thanks, only thing that worries me is that VA is very strict on how much you can tint your windows. Wonder how likely it would be that they would actually pull me over for having too much tint?

VERY likely.....and if they do....you will not only be given a ticket to pay...but have to have your tint removed too....then all your money is gone down the drain....

you are better off just having them tinted by a reputable shop and having them done as dark as the law will allow...

price wise.....have a quality job done by a reputable shop....anywhere from $100 to $200 depending on where you live.

That's what I was afraid of. Guess I'll just do it as dark as legally possible. Thanks.

Depends on where you live. I know in NY, ANY tint on front windows is illegal. But...I've had ALL the windows on my car tinted at 20% (which is reasonably dark, and illegal in most states) for about 9 months now, and have yet to get hassled.

I shouldn't type this, but in the 1.5+ years and 38,000 miles I've had the P5, I have yet to be pulled over for anything. Lucky me.

But anyway - it all depends on how hard the cops are. I suppose I might get ticketed for the tint if I got pulled over for something else - but around here, the probability of getting pulled over for tint alone is slim.

Well, I think to be safe I'll just stay legal, My wife would shoot me if we got a ticket for too much tint.

My front windows are 50% and backs are 20% (normally should be 35% for most cars in Virginia) I have only had 1 officer question me on it, and he even looked up the law. This is compeltly legal (read loophole) for our cars can be classified as a multi purpose vehicle, or station wagon, which can have the back windows up to 20% but the front have to stay at least 50%.

I'm seriously considering getting my fronts darker. Basically a cop isn't going to get you on it unless you do something else to **** him off, in my case I was speeding so he questioned my tint job as well.

what part of VA are you in? I need to call the local Tint Shop and see what they can do for me. I'd like to do the back 20%. You're sure that 20% is completely legal?

I'm in Richmond,VA

Yes, thats what the tint shop told me and the cop let me go after I told him what the shop told him and he went back to his car and came back and said I was free to go. So I would image that it true. If you look at how dark SUV and Van windows are then I would have to said that it's 100% true that we can have our backs up to 20% legally.

I got my tints for $220, and I live at N.VA
I shopped around for a month and every shop gave me this same price
I have about 50% tint all around and as cyberglitch stated before, front should be 35% and back 50% limit.
I decided to make the whole thing even.
Check out the pics, for 50% tint, I like alot
And, I think is more than enough

Talking about getting pulled over
A friend of mine moved from NY, and he had 20% tint all over. He has been driving around for a year with it on, and last week, he got pulled over for speeding and was asked to remove the tint.........too dark!!! Stay on the legal side, you are way better of this way.....plus, you don't your wife yelling at you too!

Front 35% and back 50%? shouldn't that be the other way around? I thought you could tint the back more than the front.

man, I always get confused by the percentages
Yeah, the front should be lighter than the back
so I guess it is 65 percent at front and 50 percent at back
hope this is right

Tint percentage is listed by how much light can PASS through the the tint.

So, 50% tint lets 50% of the light thru, 20% tint only lets 20% thru, etc. That's why the lower the number, the darker the tint.
