boosting my mx3..need help from sohc guys.
i plan to boost my sohc (b6e) on my mx3 and know that the pro lx transmission will bolt to my mx3. i plan to buy the one from a 92' protege and was wondering if any of you sohc turbo guys out there are running on atx transmissions and what the reliability was?
if i can do this, i might end up boosting early this year. if not, i'll just swap to mtx with mostly pro lx parts and then put in the turbo.

if u have a rx-7 (still don't believe you, it prob your dads or something) why don't u do that up instead of boosting a auto sohc mx-3
and if theres a secret alliance of members hate you i guess i'm the leader cause everyone of your posts just **** me off

As far as anybody running a SOHC turbo... I don't think there are any, esp. with ATX! What kind of horsepower are you planning on putting out? (Just a ballpark guess.)

126hp or whp? also i plan to shotpeen it as well because i saw on a site that someone got his transmission shotpeened for only $100 at an airforce certified place...the catch is that he took the transmission off and apart for the place. does anyone have an estimate on how much more can that g-series take with shotpeening?

ok ive decided to do it after some research. the setup will be 90-94 pro lx transmission/flywheel and maybe a upgraded torque converter with the turbo on stock igntion (6psi or so), upgraded injectors/fuel pump, adjustable or rrfpr, and stock axles (no hard launches).
when time comes to up the boost, i will swap to mtx, then new internals and axles, act clutch, 2nd gen rx7 maf, upgrade ignition and make the restrictive head flow better.
thanks to everyone who helped.

You will be more than fine with the pro lx tranny. It can supposedly take up to about 300 ft/lbs of torque before having problems. I don't know if you'd even come close to that with a turboed B6 without putting quite a bit of cash down. Good luck, and welcome to the board

I too am boosting my B6 ... I know of two other guys who have done the same thing on their B6 1.6L SOHC. One of these guys is running 13.8@101MPH and he has not gone inside the engine yet, only boost (Garrett t3/t4 hybrid at 18psi) and bolt-ons. He did, however, trash 5 323 transmissions before going with a Protege-LX 5-speed. The LX tranny seems to be the obvious choice.
I know of another guy who boosted his 1.8L SOHC Protege with a MTX. Running at a mere 5psi on a small IHI turbo, his tranny gave up after only a month of daily driving. He too has switched to a 5-speed and has had much better results.
In my own case, I will be swapping out the 323 tranny for an LX too. Other than my turbo setup (rebuilt IHI RHB5 turbo off a Ford Probe), I have head work, ignition, and a few other goodies. I have yet to finish the project but I am hoping for low 14's or even 13's ... We shall see...

Goodluck with ur turbo project. As far as i know the lx is the strongest. And ive heard rumors of the tranny blowing at 300 but i have a feeling its because they dropped them too hard. We will see hopefully i can go to a junk yard and pick up a few lx transmissions just in case...Jon
