BOV Placement
I am just about ready to start installing my turbo setup. I'm finishing the fabbing of the piping. My question is where is the best place to mount the BOV? I always see them mounted up near the throttle body, but if the point is to release the pressure on the turbo, wouldn't after the turbo and B4 the intercooler be best? Also isnt a By-pass setup better, with the "Blown Off" air being sent back into the intake tube after the MAF/MAP? You wouldn't get the stalling then correct?
And about that, why does everybody put the MAF/MAP before the turbo and intercooler? Wouldnt it be better to have it be the last thing before the throttle body, so it only sees the actual air going into the motor? Then you can vent your BOV to the atmosphere where it can escape faster. And no stalling, and no running rich. Has anybody tried this?
Lastly, would putting the vacuum hose for the wastegate up closer to the throttle body give you a faster "signal" to open and close the gate instead of waiting for it to back up / presure up, the whole system?

You've got it right....you want the BOV as close to the TB as possible. you would want a BPV closer to the turbo.

About the wastegate signal line. I would think that if you placed it closer to the turbo outlet, it will get fast response because as the air travels throught the pipes, to the intercooler, and then to the manifold it will loose some pressure. So by placing it closer to the turbo it will have a "faster" reaction time to open or close. This is what im thinking to do for mine.

Another way to prove this is on some turbos i have seen in that the wastegate has about 2 inches of rubber tube that goes to the wastegate, then to a nipple that is just before the outlet of the turbo and its connected to the end of the "snail" part.

ya, you are right. Any opinions on the BOV versus BPV? I could care less about not having that WHOOOSH. Im 30 not 16. Plus I think it would get annoying after awhile. I just dont want it running rich and stalling

the bov sounds cooler, but the bpv is more functional, and running the bpv doesn't always eliminate the stalling, it may make it alittle better, or might clear it up totaly, you never know, i myself have , the hks ssqv, loud as hell, the car does stall some, but a guy at the jersey meet had the same bov as me and had it recirculating, and it still stalled, so i dunno, you can drive that car and never hear the bov if you keep the revs down, its all upto the driver.

I just got done talking to a guy who is running 12 psi on his P5 and has his Mass air on the positive side of the turbo, right B4 the throttle body. Vents his BOV to the atmosphere and no stalling! Thats what im going to do.

Its only more functional because it elimintes the air that has been metered to be put back into the system. A BOV actually vents the air off quicker. But if the air hasnt been metered it shouldnt matter correct?

I have the Greddy Type S bov on my 91 Protege LX and I have it set up to recirculate. The bov sits on the pipe going into the throttle body but recirculates back to the intake pipe going into the turbo. Also, I have my maf mounted at the begining of my intake system just as the factory setup. I've tried it one several different boost levels and have not had any issues with stalling.
