GTX Overheating

Has anyone experience this with their swap?

It seems to run OK as long a air passes through the radiator but as soon as it sits for a bit (eg: engine running at traffic light), it tends to get really warm (above the thermometer symbol on the temperature gauge, sometimes up to the hot reading). When I turn it off, the pressure builds and the radiator cap just spews the cooland out.

The fan is turning on, I have thouroughly cleaned the cooling system and added the proper amounts of coolant and water.

Any suggestions?

I am thinking of adding a second push fan on the left side of the radiator directly in front of the turbo manifold.

Also, the car is a 5-speed but I replaced the radiator (a while back) with one from an automatic. This radiator has two nipples to run coolant for the automatic tranny. I am thinking of running the coolant hoses from the input and output sides of the turbo through the resevroir that is inteded to cool the auto tranny.

What do you think of this?

One last question. How can you tell that the water pump is faulty? Mine seems to flow water and its not making any nasty noises.

Mmm, I don't know. (I'm probably just too cheap the replace it)

Once the engine warms up you can feel the bottom radiator hose warm up as the thermostat opens and allows the water to flow.

It just seems that the whole engine including the radiator is becoming heat soaked and just cannot keep up with cooling of the engine. I hooked up the automatic tranny cooling portion of the radiator but not much difference. After work I guess I'll pick up a push fan and install it on the left side to the raditor in front of the turbo.

did you bleed your system after installing the radiator..

if you did not bleed the system , then take the RAd cap off and start the car and just let it run till all the bubbles/air come out the system..

but if that's not it ..
then I hope you changed the timing belt and water pump before you put that engine in your car...
It really would not make sense if you didn't change all that before installing the engine

I did not change those parts since the timing belt looks and feels top notch. I took off the accessory belts and turned the water pump pully by hand. No shaft play and it turns fairly easily.

Yes indeed I did run the engine with the rad cap off and pumped the rad hose in an attempt to remove all the air.

I picked up a second fan for the right side of the rad and will install it tomorrow.

Yesterday was a cooler day as opposed the the last few which were schorchers and as a matter of fact my wife was driving the car around town yesterday and said that she experienced no problems.

your rad. cap is spewing when hot??? it sounds like your cap is bad, and a bad cap could cause you to run hot. just my .02

I added that second fan this weekend, tested it on a super hot day yesterday and it seems to be working well now.

I hear you and will probably do so in the near future since the water pump is rather cheap.
