how fast after installing turbo?

i have a 2001 Protege with auto tranny and MS muffler with custom 2.25" pipe. I am thinking of getting the BEGI 8 psi turno kit. How fast would my car be after installing the kit?

Go and test drive 01-02 Saab 9-3 SE with 205 hp. Then, after wiping smile from your face, imagine that same power will be in car which weighs 350 lb less and has no traction control or limited slip diff.

Estimated 6 sec 0-60. Estimated low 14 sec runs. Boost just under 8 psi for now. Estimated 200-210 hp. Check the videos. Sorry for the short post but I am on my way out the door.

that's what I thought since mine is a POS auto.

0-60 7 sec
1/4 mile 15.3 sec.

****, my brother's 00 GSR runs 14.7 sec with a stock bottom end and a few bolt ons. His car is making 179 whp, but only 126 whp. I have been talking to him about maybe buying a turbo kit, but he said that his car will still faster than mine after I install the turbo. That really sucks! He's trying to convince me to sell the Protege and buy a used a used 94-95 GSR, which are the fastest one because they have OBDI for only $6000, if I find one. But the truth is I like the Protege and I need a 4 door, reliable vehicle for a long time, not a car that is already 7-8 yrs old and has over 100k miles. Mine only has 10k miles. That's why I also have another post asking about the reliability after installing a turbo kit, because I cannot afford my car being on the shop all the time with broken tranny, axles, etc.

Always remember you have 2 different types of cars here. The GS-R comes out of the box with 170 hp. Thats a 40 hp advantage from the start. And, it will rev to 8500 w/ no problem. My buddy has moderate mod '97 GS-R which we are building a turbo kit for now. I will never be able touch him when that is finished. But his GS-R with the turbo will never stand a chance against his ZR-1. 2 different types of cars. Case in point a used GS-R still sells for more than we paid for our cars new. The P5 is my daily driver. The Vette is my race car

Tell him to F off, save for a while and get an RX-8 or S2000 then tell him to shut up.

Your friend is dead wrong. I built my turbo for fight at $3000. I bought the Spool starter kit, and pieced the rest together myself. Here is what my turbo system includes.

Tubular manifold
Garrett T3 w/60 trim comp. wheel
Starion intercooler
Nitrous Express Intercooler spray kit
Vortech 10:1 FMU
TurboXS BOV and Boost controler
J&S Ultra Safeguard

I can expect an easy 200 at the wheels at 8 to 9psi. That is a 100hp jump at the wheels. I know I can push it to 10 to 12 and get around 220hp at the wheels. That comes up to about $30 per hp. At that hp level, my car will beat almost anything on the road that is stock.(Z28, Mustang GT, Integra, WRX, you name it) Now if a civic hatch with a GSR swap comes up, he'll have my ownership papers. But your friend with the Integra will see nothing but my tail lights and be smelling my exhaust. And that is guarenteed.

Hey Ben I was wondering, in a couple of threads you debated on getting the J&S safeguard, how do you like that? How hard is it to install? I understand about the drilling into the block to install microphone. ( I don't think I could do it)

Also how hard is the Vortech FMU 10:1 to install, I saw the pic of it (I'm clueless). Would I be ok running the FMU with a fuel pressure regulator?

The reason why I am asking is now that M2 performance will not be coming out with the cpu and injector upgrade anytime soon, my turbo set -up will be close to yours, with the acception og our manifolds, and your nitrous spray kit, and the fact that you will go up to 10-12psi of boost. (I'm sorry dude, my ***** aren't that BIG) LOL

Thanks Ben

You don't have to dril a hole for the microphone. You can use the one that came on the car. It will be the best one to use since it was designed for this car. As for the install, I haven't done it yet. I haven't had time. I'm running 6psi right now and it is hella powerful. I beat the **** out of a friend that has a NA 300zx with 202 rear wheel horse power. And no he's not a bad driver. His car is like 800lbs heaver though. It doesn't look like it will be hard to install though. The guy that makes it is very helpfull and you can call him to ask him question anytime. The Vortech is also VERY easy to install. It goes inline witht he return fuel line. This is the way it works. When fuel is pumped into the fuel rail, not all of the fuel goes into the injectors. That unused fuel goes back into the tank. The FMU senses boost and closes the return line proportional to the boost. This forces the extra fuel to go through the injectors. I'm only going to use 10psi for the dyno so I can see what it can do. I'm using 5 to 8psi for daily driving. But at 5 to 6 psi right now, I can tell you that I am plenty satisfied with the power.

Thanks for getting back to me on that Ben, hopefully I will have mine on in 2 weeks. I am also planning on getting the tranny built so I can give it hell and not have to worry about it.

At 6 psi, I can't feel my clutch slipping at all. I'm sure it will at higher psi, but it's not right now.
