MAF after intercooler?? Thoughts
Ok everyone a thought has been brought to me and see if any of you have any insite. Should i put my MAF after my Intercooler piping or leave it before the turbo....would the heat damage the MAF?? I know the pressure wouldn't bother it as it doesn't measure the flow of air but the density of the air going through it. So before or after the turbo its goign to measure the same amount of air. But if its after the intercooler I can run a open atomosphere BOV and not have any issues with fuel that some people run into with an open atmosphere BOV on a MAF setup like stalling and excess fuel dumping. Anyone have any thoughts.

It's really a bit more complicated than that, but thats pretty much all there is to.
I won't claim to know everything, or anything, about blow through MAF setups..
But there are a few things I have picked up, from memory:
1. you don't want it too close to the throttle body (air bouncing off closed throttle plate would come back through and get measured twice - the MAF has no directionality)
2. you don't want it too close to the turbo (turbulent air might not enter the sensor hole and so it might read low (more likely) or high (less likely))
3. you want to be careful of how the piping mates to the MAF on both sides of it, for the same reasons as #2 - turbulent or incorrect flow distribution causes incorrect readings.
4. If using a BOV as opposed to recirculating valve (sorta the whole point of this excercise, isn't it?) then place it BEFORE the MAF, otherwise this is a pointless waste of time.
So in short, if you set up a working blow through setup, then you can use a BOV instead of a recirculating valve without worrying about the over-rich condition that a BOV would cause with a normal draw through MAF setup. Just remember: the BOV goes BEFORE the MAF, otherwise you've defeated the purpose.

well actually i had forgotten a few things on teh 3rd gen proteges. They utilize both a MAF and MAP sensors so a open atmosphere BOV can be used with no problems as the ECU cross references the readings from the MAP and the MAF sensors.

I have been running a BOV that vents to the atmosphere for almost a year. Thats not saying it doesn't run fat when I Blow Off, but it's not enough to hinder performance.
Once the TEC2 is installed I can eliminate that all together.

I want it due to ease of plumbing and yes the sound I want to be intimidating ROFL oh yeah I ran a open atmosphere with not problems before....of course that setup is now on Ambients car.
