Question mazdaspeed protege boost capability

I like many are debating msp or mazda6. one thing that could help in decision making my mind up, is knowing the boost limits, or people that have turned it up and what they're running?

i think it's only running 6-8psi stock but i have no doubt the engine can handle 12-13 before needing to beef up the transmission.

The FS in the MSP is thought to start really pushing the stock internals ~14-16 psi, depending on your tuning...

Doesn't the mazda 6 drag car use a turbo version of the new 2.4L 4cyl engine? If so, it'd be nice to know how much of the engine they left stock.

Hi this is my first thread to write in here in the Mp3 site..but about the mazda 6 drag car...its ran by ed bergenhizer in the 6's supposedly using the new Mzr motors found in the mazda 6i's. Its a 2.3L DOHC VVT setup.

Now about the MSP Protege boost is safe at 6-7 but anything over 10 i heard is really hard on the engine considering they really didnt have turbo in mind until the mps. They only use the stock engine which is in the es protege and juss added turbo, so most of the stock parts are pretty weak.

i beleive the MSP can max out at 15psi. That would prolly set it up with ~220-230hp.

FWIR, The rods in the FS motors (rods) begin to fail at about 225whp and the ecu boost cut is somewhere around 10psi. This is what I read on the protegemp3 forums.
The most suprising thing I have read about the mazdaspeed is that no additional strengthening was done versus N/A motor. Just hang an turbo off it and upgrade the ECU. I think even the Injectors are the same as the MP3

enough with the shity engine...do u think the protege will use the New MZR's found in the M6?

I know within 2 years here...the MPS 6 will come out...its already in concept in europe and japan...but i think it will come with AWD Turbocharged 2.3L VVT MZR engine.

Wont that be something...

is the FS motor THAT much weaker than the KL? we've got a good handful of boosted KL guys that are running at least 240whp and 90% of us are on stock internals.....i have yet to hear about a snapped rod due to the power output....a few had melted the pistons cuz of the a/f ratio.....and some are just careless

I wouldn't call the Mazda 6 V6 a brand new engine. Its been around in the ford lot in the taurus since 96, and a smaller displacement version (2.5 duratech) in the cougar, contour and mystique for around the same amount of time. Some guys in the cougar have used the vortech supercharger kit to attain 400 hp.
