well i dont know to much about Nitrous but i was really thinking about getting a kit with the extra cash burning in my pocket. After doing a search and reading about all the motors going bye bye and how MP3's have timeing issues. I dont know if its such a good idea anymore

 

yea i was going to put some in my pro, but after i read about it, just the principle of a larger explosing in the same small place just didnt sit right with me. I know more about it now, but i still dont think ill get me a bottle, im waiting for the 1gen sohc turbage to happen

Well I dont know about running nitrous in an MP3 or MP5 personally since I dont own one, I have an MCS14, but nitrous itself is pretty safe. To run it safe you must have some safety precautions in your motor before running the system. The main thing that can go wrong is adding nitrous into your engine without compensating fuel. This extreme lean condition is disaster for the engine, and you're not likely to get a second chance - at least with the same engine. Conversely, adding extra fuel without nitrous is not particularly bad for the engine, so you can imagine, it's safer to start with the car running rich (too much fuel), then lean it back from there. Follow the jet charts when you get the system. Misconceptions about engine blowups are due to running the system unwisely. I run an 75 shot NX Wet kit myself safely and there has been zero problems. Yes nitrous is an easy hp get go but its really not cheating..most drag cars (if you want to go drag) use nitrous as an extra bonus to their setup. I understand one of the main reason why people chose a nitrous set up first is because its cheaper and at the moment they couldnt get a turbo. I wouldnt recommend just nitrous alone for awhile if you want to test your cars potential. Steps to check before running:

- change your spark plugs to colder plugs for better detonation
- check your solenoids
- start at a small shot of nitrous, 50shot is a good start but if you are unsure, use 35 shot, until you feel comfortable, if you want to go 100 shot+, id recommend engine management with new rod and pistons, etc to ensure your engine's safety
- use higher octane fuel
- get a Ignition RPM limiter (cuts the signal to the fuel injectors so the cylinders have no combustion without doing it manually)
- get a Fuel Pressure Safety Switch
- get at least I/E

again..there are many misconceptions to Nitrous but take the precautions and advice from people who run nitrous. Whether you want to go nitrous or turbo is an individual choice. Im not sure of the MP5 or MP3 potential but a 50 shot of NX wet kit is safe. Just remeber, even having a turbo can blow up your engine if you are not using safety precautions, believe me, I have lots of proof where turbos can go wrong and thats due to incorrect tuning and maintenance. Its a lot easier IMO to take care of nitrous.

 

well before i make any decisions i think i will do some more research and wait to see how my engine runs after the head.

 

Unless you find a way to retard the MP3's timing, and a good fuel enrichment method, don't do it!! I am a N20 victim, and can tell you from experience, it ain't pretty at all!!

 

Been Running NX Wet shot for some time now..No problems for me..but i have a pro5....If you are running an mp3...i would suggest no larger than a 50 shot wet...i believe linux was running a 75 shot!!

they're both just as safe, as long as you FOLLOW THE RULES. I've seen some BAD BAD BAAADDDD turbo situations as well as n20.

 

Speaking from experience I wouldn't put a dry NOS kit on at least. I've heard the wet kits are much safer. I have a lot of friends that are running wet kits on their Honda's and VW's but I don't know how they will treat the Protege. We're still waiting to get the engine fixedin the Pro from when we ruined with with a dry Zex kit. But it's still in the body shop and we have to wait for it to come out of their first. (it's been in there for about 9 months now ) I think the main problem we had with the Pro was similar to what 98turboKA was saying. The engine was running WAY too lean when the nitrous kicked in. If the kit was still spraying and you fuel cut off, it does numbers on your engine. We're been contemplating putting a 50 shot NX wet kit on their once we get the engine fixed, but we haven't decided cause it's going to be a show car instead of a racer. But then again it's too fun smoking a honda since all the honda owners talk trash on the Pro. So I guess we'll have to wait and see.

 

hey patio your running a 50 shot? also what else did you do to ensure the safty of your motor while useing Nitrous? im thinking about buying a wet kit from NX or maybe that plug in fogger direct port kit from NOS.
