Peeps suggestions and opinions on turbo

I am now seriously considering turboing the P5, but I have heard mixed things about P5's with FI. Some say that the P5 engine can't hadle it, and crap out. Others say they love it, and have no problems. For those of you that have FI, or those that don't, do you really believe it to be safe, and OK on your engine? I don't want to get it to screw up my engine.
Also would like to get you'r guys' opinion on this turbo kit..

Thanks for everyones thoughts!

do NOT ever buy anythign from turbokits.com..they are GARBAGE and will require extensive modification to work poorly.

is your p5 a manual or automatic? Automatics can't really handle turbo's torque. 5spd cars dont have this problem. If you choose an FI system make sure you chose one with proper engine managament. You can make a LOT of power on these engines if you can control detonation. Detonation destroys engines, not boost.

Matty right, I've been reading this forum sight and the other for a while now. Your p5 is TC or SC? Mine is a manual. I was looking at turbos from a bunch of dif. companies, i.e. HIBOOST, Mental Addiction... and the one on turbokits.com. Thats upsetting what you say about them, cause that kit is pretty cheep. $2800 for all. Oh well, i guess i'll just have to save up alittle longer for the better kit. If you could pick one kit, which would you prefer? Thanks man, Jeffery D.

mine is supercharged and 5spd.

If I could pick one....hmm...well seeing as how I make one of them I may not be the best person to ask. I'm a little biased. I would say you would need to choose your kit based on what your needs/wants are.

If you're shopping for a supercharger kit mine is the only choice so that makes it easier.

If you're looking for a turbo kit then it depends on what you'd like...there are differences in each.

These are my personal opinions.....take it as you will.

Wagner, best physical design....tubular header, efficient plumbing, mandrel bent piping....uses standard FMU for fuel management.

HiBoost, best engine managment, best reliability (no known blown engines with hiboost), not the most efficient design....cast iron log-style manifold etc...

MAM, same as wagner only costs a lot more.

Yeah, I was just reading your thread about the womp SC, Sounds good. Sorry to hear about your teeth... OOOOUUUCCCHHH. Didn't get a chance to read through that whole thread though. What is your SC runnin for, price wise? You have all stock internals? What is your estimated WHP? I am just looking for more GOOD HP. the p5 isn't bad, but my wife just bought a 2005 GLI, and she murders me all over the place, except for handling, I'm tired of it.

LOL,that's funny, because I LIKE the fact the Hiboost manifold is cast.Stronger. I have already heard of Wagner and MAM manifolds cracking at the welds.I agree about the flow though.

yeah, if you have a weak weld or two it won't last as long but the performance and cosmetic benfits are real nice. I ran a cast iron log manifold on my turbo pinto for years....switched over to an ebay cheap-o tubular header and made probably another 20whp at the same boost level. It was a BIG difference.

i like the highbost kits myself, i love wagner, i have his mani, and downpipe, but from what i hear customer survice went to ****, but thats here say.

the 2.0 protege has great potential, but it is weak, plain and simple, rods suck, if you do it right, and keep your boost at safe levels you should be fine. and like they said, tuning is key with the 2.0.
