So I just sold my 2001 Suzuki GSXR600 racebike a few weeks ago. I am taking a break from motorcycle roadracing as the costs are pretty out of control when trying to keep myslef top 5 competitive and I need to focus some of that time and money on my family and paying off some bills.

So when cleaning out my garage I ran into an almost full 5 gallon can of my $15/gallon Nutec special 4 race fuel. It is good for 5+ hp instantly on a race bike so I figured why not as I did not want it to go to waste. Well....I mixed it with the 5-6 gallons I already had swishing around in my tank and let me tell you - noticable power gains. Not a lot mind you, but the throttle response was nice and crisp with a little more punch. I don't plan on doing it again, but it was a fun little experiment.

What out it depends on the mixture of race fuel.
I had problems after I ran a tank of AV Gas and 110 octane a few years back. Mixture was wrong and it ate a valve and punched my piston and slide it sideways in the case.

The Nutec is actually a fairly low octane race mixture. I think it is only like 90 octane, but it is oxygenated at about 3%. I am not sure what all is in it, but it is fairly nasty stuff. It'll make your eyes water from 100 feet away and it has been known to cause damage to rubber fuel lines and clog up injectors if you do not drain it out after your done racing. It works great with supersport or lightly modded race engines (like mine was). A higher octane race fuel would be needed for higher compression and heavily modded race engines. I don't plan on putting race fuel in again though.

how high do you want to go?
You can usually go to a Gas dealer and get either av gas, racing fuel, or such. you can try calling the airport also and getting some higher octane fuel

J/K! Hey Jeremy, what's up? How's that FS-ZE treating you? As you probably know, I had to have mine overhauled! The cylinder walls were gouged, and I was loosing oil! That's all fixed now! I have lower compression (9.1:1), and BOOST!!!!

you could fill up with 91 octane and spekd 7 bucks and get a octange booster that adds 2 points

Guys in the DFW area,

I found a place that sells Shell/Phillips 66 Race Fuel. This is not the mixed ****, but formulated from scratch! The place is called Motorsport Sales off TI Boulavard and Floyd Circle at 635 and hwy 75. I went there to pick up some Redline oil, and Tranny fluid, and that place is phuckin stocked!!! They are the major supplier of all the Tuner shops in the area. I suggest you check it out. Steve knows his ****, and can steer you in the right direction on oils, fuels, etc...

By the way, I run nothing lower than 93 Octane.

Most octane boosters off an auto parts store shelf pretty much suck. Torco race fuel concentrate is pretty good though.

If there isn't a place that sells race fuel near by, you can up the octane a bit by mixing in toulene and/or xylene. I don't recall which is which, but one is rated at 117 and the other at 114. Mix with regular unleaded to your desired octane rating. You can pick it up from a paint supply store. Be careful with the stuff though, it's pretty toxic, so I'd recommend wearing gloves. Mix before pouring into the tank. Also, add a little Marvel Mystery Oil to the blend. It ends up costing about the same as 100 octane unleaded for me, so I just go to the Sunoco pump instead of mixing my own.

The toluene is 114...It is actually used in most regular pump gas as it is to raise the octane.

However, as far the toxicity goes, it isn't any worse than gasoline. It makes great paint thinner, dries quickly, and is very flammable.

There is a pretty easy formula to figure out what octane you are running using the toluene. Toluene is going to be by far a lot cheaper than the junk they sell at the auto parts store, and it will actually give you more of an octane "boost".

Formula:
((Gas Octane * Amount (gallons)) + (114 (toluene) * Amount (gallons))) / Total amount in the tank (gallons) = Total Octane

Example: Using a 14 gallon tank, thriteen gallons of fuel and one gallon of toluene.

((91*13) + (114 * 1)) / 14 = 92.64 octane

This is an approximation...

The octane booster a store sells will only give about .2 or so boost. Sounds like a crappy deal to me.

I almost forgot, instead of Marvel Mystery Oil you can throw in ATF. It is about the same thing.
