Turbo questions
I have a couple of questions for anyone out there willing to answer them for me.
What does knowing the boost of the turbo do?
What is "boost" when talking about turbos?

I'm not a turbo expert, but basically "boost" is the pressure at which the air is 'forced' into the engine. The higher the boost leve, the more air is being pumped in. The more air being pumped in, the more fuel is required to properly combust with the ammount of air. That's why it's important to monitor your boost, and air/fuel ratio among other things when you have a turbo'd, or "boosted" engine. Hope this helps. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me!

A turbo simply forces air into the engine. On a non turbo engine, the pressure inside the intake manifold is always negative cause the pistons are sucking the air and the throttle is stopping it, so it creates a vacume. At wide open throttle pressure is 0 cause the throttle is wide open, and the only pressure is the atmosphere, which would be 0. With a turbo air is being forced into the engine, so that creates a positive pressure or boost. Basically you use it to know how much more air is going into the engine. The higher the boost, the more air, the more fuel you need, the more heat is generated, the more stress put on the engine, there are many things that change with boost.
Hope that helps.
