Turbo Vs The Bottle

I HAVE A 02 P5 AND WAS WANDERING WHICH WOULD BE THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK ON THESE CARS DON'T REALLY HAVE THE MONEY FOR THE BOOST BUT IF IT COMES DOWN TO CAN GET IT BUT I'VE HAD NOS BEFORE AND LOVED IT WITHOUT ANY PROBS JUST DON'T KNOW HOW THESE MOTORS HOLD UP. SO IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS EXPERIENCED EITHER PLEASE FILL ME IN ON THE TIMES AND THE PERFORMACE AND WHAT YOUR OPINION IS NO WHAT TO DO.

1) caps not necessary

2) bang for buck......NNAAAAWWWWSSSS, but it shortens the life of your engine, and depending on the "shot" may damage/grenade your motor....

Best bang for buck in short run(in regards to money)=Nitrous
Best bang for with longevity(inregards to money) =Boost!!

I have done both on my Protege, but if either is done wrong, it's curtains for you engine.

Right...learn a little more.

Doesn't shorten the life of your engine any more than a turbo or supercharger would. Run the right fuel management for both and be smart about the amount you boost or squeeze, and you will be fine.

Well if you know about boost...every time you switch gears you lose it!!

Well that's what i have heard...

I use a nitrous kit and it lasts right through all my gears....i get no lag like turbo's give ya!!

you should know that you only get lag , with certain types of turbo's and I highly doubt NOS , would out last turbo ...

I rember a guy posted on here a while ago , who had a turbo civic with a (prelude)2.0 motor with turbo in it , and raced a p5 with NOS....
what happened ,,
p5 took a slight lead at first
but in the end
P5 got smoked,

BOOST FOR PRESIDENT

The cool thing about turbos is that they are throttle and RPM dependent.

what do you guys think about nitrous on an auto? I know that it works better than stick, but are the mp5 auto tranny's strong for 50-75 shot?

There's no doubt in my mind that a tubo is better than NITROUS setup....But ALL TURBO'S GIVE YOU LAG!!! I personally cannot justify spending more than $3000 for a turbo setup b/c of my financial situation!!

With my nitrous kit...I will get it up to 75shot this summer and then lets see how a turbo will hold up against me...Most Turbo setup are only pushing 160-190hp...where as by this summer i will be around 200hp!!

So i will definetly be able to give any turbo'd Protege's a Run for their Money!!

And who knows...maybe if MSD IGINITION comes out w/ something for our protege's to retard timing we can all have allot more fun!!

lets see,

FM/BEGI turbo kit ~ 3500
Nitrous Express Wet Kit ~ 600 bucks

wanna compare 1/4 mile times and tell me how BIG of a difference $2900 makes??

200 hp , you mean to tell me that is all your aiming for ,,, ok no offense but don't make me laugh tonight /or this morning due to the time , I am wanting to reach 200 as the 1st stage of my goal of my 1.8bp swap with upcoming turbo ,, you have the fs motor , so those are a little different , but I know 200 for a bp with proper feul and so forth is a breaze, and then what happens when i do the bottom end and turn the boost up even more,.. well ok look I am not saying that nos is a bad thing , cause it is a good thing , but you have to remeber it is cheap hp , and also a shortcut , and you know what they say about shortcuts, in life, It is usally the quickest way to trouble, ...
anyhow if you hit 200 with that nos set up , for those 2 or 3 seconds that you at 200 hp , I just hope your motor is setup properly, cause I would hate to see anyone loose an engine, and a friend of mine is using a msd retard ignition system with his 1.5L protege with a 50 shot of nos ... a guy named marcio , he is on this board
