Question what to do before uppin the boost

im startin to consider a couple things for the new mazdaspeed protege.... intake blow off valve and uppin the boost. im pritty sure its a 6 right now i just want to know what kinda mods i need to do before i start uppin the boost, like what to do so my engine can take that power... im new at the whole forced induction scene so any info would help...thanks

and i was wonderin what kinds blow off vavle would be best for it, the shops ive been goin to tall me apex or greddy universal blow off valves but im not sure

blow off valves are more of a personal choice as to the sound they make since they all do the same thing. Do you have any guages that can monitor things like EGT, BOOST, OIL TEMP, A/F meter???? If you have access to a tuning shop that can monitor these things so you can tune the car then you may not need them.

You can prolly take the boost to ~12-13 before the engine needs modification but the tranny will most likely fail around the 210-220hp range anyway. How high do you want to take the boost? Once you hit 100% duty cycle of the injectors you'll have to upgrade those to handle the extra boost. If you are going higher than 9psi you prolly want to throw in a front mount intercooler that is bigger than the tiny stock one. There are also a few other odds and ends but it depends how crazy you want to get.

If you choose to up the boost with a MBC and get an intake, definately get something for fuel management. Both of those mods will lean out the A/F and we all know what happens if you go too lean. Do you use 91 octane or 93?

If I owned a MSP , i would examine the intercooler,
see what the possibilities are of relocating it to the front .. and adding custom pipping.

like someone eslse mentioned, I would look into gauges..
Also look into getting a manifest for the stock cpu , showing wire connections and so forth ...

boost controller
means of richening the mixture(feul)
egt(not really needed, right away)
Air/feul... although their are different ways of measuring this .. still investigating
Boost gauge
better exhaust ,, from turbo back..

umm, mainly BOV, IC, Fuel pump and a 2.5" or 3" exhaust.
