The *real* fact is MP5 is an acronym for Mazda Protege 5, as previously discussed countless times before. Some people just cant accept the fact that *anyone* can create an acronym. One example is PMS. It doesnt just stand for Premenstrual Syndrome, it also stands for many other things.

So, some of us like to call the Protege5 MP5 and P5. Does this make it wrong...no.

The whole "MP5" thing started when the MP3 first came out... for whatever retarded reason, lots of people thought that meant "Mazda Protege 3" so they "safely" assumed it was ok to call the Protege 5 "MP5". Does that make it right? No.

To reiterate, "MP3" means MPEG Layer 3 audio. I don't see the Mazda name anywhere under MPEG, do you?
</rant>

I always thought it meant Mpeg Layer 3....and not Mazda Protege 3

I knew this becausxe i knew it is supposed to be the first OEM mp3 cd player in a car...so they used it as the name...
