Before I could make that choice....I would need to see what the performance stats on the new 6 are going to be like. not to mention....we know the price tag is going to be a bit more.....the cars are beautiful, that goes without saying.....

well for starters.....you are new here....and just so you know....people aren't here ALL the time....and you only put your FIRST post up a few minutes ago....and to expect the posts to just start flooding in....well it just don't happen that way all the time....be patient.

the Pros of getting your P-5 now.
you will have a fine car NOW.
you will have a car that handles very nicely.
you will have a car that draws attention as its very good looking.
you won't be waiting...oh...that is sorta like the first one.
you will have a car that has the start of good aftermarket support.

the Cons of waiting for the Mazda6

you WON'T have a fine car NOW.

you will be waiting.....and waiting.....and waiting.....

personally I believe they will be in HIGH demand at first...and thus the dealers will get more for them....

the cost of the 6 will be higher than the 5.....plain economics....does it make any difference to you? if not..this one dosn't apply.

the 6 won't have any if much aftermarket supprot for a while....if that matters.

there.....hows that.

The 6 Sedan debuts in a few months as a 2003 model. Unfortunately, the hatch and wagon won't be around in North America until late 2003 as a 2004 model. So....you'd have to wait quite a while.

And what 260hp motor are you talking about? The V6 in the new 6 will only put out 218hp.

just wait for new Mazda3 to come out (2004), it will out handle Mazda6, Pro5 and lot more other cars under 30K!
Hopefully price of decent equiped one will start around 15K!
That will be a blast, I can't wait.
For some reason there is no noise about it yet, Mazda3 fever is comming!!!

I read it in lots of places, I thought it was well documented. Check out the preview of the 6 in the July issue of Road and Track if you want proof.

Mazda's selling 3 models of the 6, the sedan, the hatchback and the wagon. For the record it's the wagon that looks a bit like a bigger P5, the hatch looks close to the sedan. And yes the Sedan arrives first, check out this site for details. http://www.mazdausa.com/mazda6_minisite/index.html
Also the V6 in ES model makes 219bhp.

The Mazda 6 is really nice and I had thoughts of waiting but I chose not because:
1) The car is significantly bigger, even though I could use the extra space, I am sure the extra size and weight will remove alot of the sportiness that could be found in the P5. the car looks to be about the size of a VW Passat.
2) I am guessing that by the time you are done, the price will be $28-30k. Especially when you look at the class of cars it will be competing with. Maybe someone heard different, but I'd be surprised if it is cheaper than that. (at the least it will be $26k)
3) This is America, and foreign car companies don't have any respect for our drivers, people that want sportiness in a car are a minority. That said, my prediction is the Wagon will only come with the Automatic. ****, most Porsches are bought with automatics in the US, What does that say. ( that is sacrilegious!)
4) The P5 is more maneuverable in traffic (assumtion)
5) The P5 is less than $17k which is a main reason for my purchase, because if I could have afforded $25k I would have bought a WRX ( Now that I own the P5, I am glad I didn't buy the WRX, I like the looks of the P5 better, and I would have lost my license by now with the WRX)
I am not trying to talk you out of the 6, I am just expressing my opinion, which is what you asked for
