Protege6? What's the 411?

okay, this was covered lightly in another thread, but does anyone know what this protege6 is all about? i just talked to the dealership owner and he said that as of today (he just got back from some mazda thingy) the protege6 will be released shortly and the rx-8 will be available feb/mar. i asked if he meant the mazda-6, the one to replace the 626, but he said no, it was the protege6.

anyone with the scoops on this?

actually, he's the owner of the dealership and has 4 others (one in cali) he's pretty much on the up and up, and said he got final word this morning of the protege6. as i said, i asked if he meant mazda6 and he said that was a different car. does anyone have the info from mazda? um, wait, actually, i could ask them myself. lol, i dunno what i was thinking.

...maybe a 6cyl protege?

Question Doesn't Make Sense!

Well, I'm certainly not an owner of a dealership network, but I don't see how they could be naming it the "Protege6", and there are two reasons why I think this:

1. I haven't seen any references to a Protege6 anywhere out there on the net-- And I look around all the time for new information.

2. Naming it "Protege6" is a confusing scheme. We've already established that they're naming their newest model "Mazda 6", and if that's the case, then coming out with another model named "Protege 6" is retarded. The marketing department over at Mazda can't be *that* moronic! It would be like Apple's line of computers, these days: They're ALL called "G4", "iBook", etc.. They've upgraded models over the years, but never changed the names, so you don't immediately know what the hell someone's talking about! Do you mean the toilet seat iBook? Do you mean the small white iBook? Do you mean the newer larger iBook!? WTF!???

Anyway, that's my take on it...

so mazda said there are no plans for the protege6 but rather he probably mixed it up witht he mazda6. sorry, i had to ask cause this wasn't the first time a mistake was made, and it seemed a bit too coincidental to be a random thing. oh well, i guess it was random.

so for the record from mazda: no protege6. what a wasted thread...

sorry!

ok, I'm the idiot who called it the Protege6 instead of Mazda6. Knew what I meant but the brain wasn't connected to the fingers that day.
Sorry for the confusion.
