Sold the RX8....yeah yeah...

Well, I enjoyed it while it lasted but the wife didn't. It's a gret car and all but 20mpg of premium fuel was not going to cut it. It turned out we spent almost $260/month just in gas. My wife fills up twice a week and was just frustrated with the cost of gas and the amount of miles she put on her car.... so we traded out.

2005 VW Beetle TDi "Sunflower Yellow"
1.9L turbo desiel
6spd automatic
leather, sunroof, 6-disk (every option you can get basically)
42-55mpg (so far)

not my cup of tea but it's actually a real nice car. I hope she likes it because she'll be driving it until I die. 5 new cars in 3 years is getting ridiculous.

p.s. it's quick as hell also. I'd put it against a stock MSP anyday of the week...it's only got 100bhp and 177lb-ft.

this is a TRUE girly car....yellow+automatic+beetle = no testosterone

it's actually real nice. I'm pretty happy with it. The money I save on gas now will go directly and immediatly to my RX7. good for me

LOL. Your wife has quite a strange liking in cars....from the 3, to the RX-8, to a beetle!! Getting to drive all these cars she should work for Car & Driver! And I agree, the bettle ain't my cup of tea either, but hey, if she likes and keeps the beetle, good for her(and you)!

And I just realized, you have to be loosing a fair amount of money trading in all these cars...because trade-in values usually suck and the actual cost of the car is usually a lot more!

the price between the 3 and the rx8 was only about $40 more a month which I think is fine....the beetle is $3 a month LESS than the RX8, insurance is cheaper and gas is MUCH cheaper.... 45mpg vs 18mpg...also the rx8 required premium which is about $2.30 and deseil is $2.25. so I'm even saving on the PRICE of gas not just the quantity. Overall this is just a car for her to pound on while she finishes her masters program in downtown B'ham....very rough on a car...the RX8 would've died quickly there.

I keep telling myself.... 18 more months and I get MY car....

I immediatly started looking for mods online and found the one I'm going to go with. Upsolute Tuning makes a P&P chip her's the before and after:

Before:
100hp
177lb-ft
111mph top speed

After:
133whp
225lb-ft
116mph

all this for $300 shipped. They also claim about 5mpg increase when not in boost. Should be neat.

the dash is ridiculously huge...tiny tiny glove box and the auto tranny is always downshifting so you never have to hit the brake pedal unless its an emergency. It's just a totally different car than what I'm used to. I like it just fine for what it is though. I wish she had bought a base model though instead of the most expensive one she could find.

they had a black/cherry vert on the showroom floor with two tone rims....black powdercoated with the side of the spokes done in cherry red...Pure sex.

I saw this and right away I thought 'what about the turbo mods', and then I read the rest of the thread. Imagibe what the boys will think when thet see your wife peel out and leave them in the dust in the flower yellow Beetle? Just make sure that the vase is always filled. Maybe some teddy bear rims to REALLY rub it in!!!

That's a nice little car.

Dale.

we're going to do the postert rims and a nice lip kit. Also I'm ordering the DieselTuning tuning box. They claim 20-30% more power and torque and 5% better gas mileage with improved shifting on the automatic tranny. All this is plug and play and $249.99+shipping. It installs in 2 minutes.

I'll go from 100bhp to 122whp

and

177lb-ft to 215lb-ft this is based on the dyno's they showed for a stock automatic Jetta TDi with the same engine/tranny.

Dont' you wish there was a $250 chip for the protege that gave 30whp and 57lb-ft WITHOUT touching the boost any......
