not sure whether the wiper motor has the built in electronics either.
and as the answer was sufficiently authoritative, I decided that maybe this was still an open question. Hence the person that actually tried it can fill me in completely... right? of course if you are now sure of the answer then I can also take that as a complete response.

I forgot about this thread. As far as my P5, I did actually swap the stalk/module to make sure it all worked fine and it worked great. I put the original back in so that I can keep the variable ones in the MPV. I will get a new stalk/module from the dealer one day.
I ordered mine today.... around $75 my cost. A bit $$$, but worth it to me.

Thanks much,
Jim

It is all one piece. Just order the new wiper stalk and the module is already attached to it. Just remove the old pice and plop in the new one. Piece of cake. Good luck to you all.

MackDaddy, If you can get me one for $75 (plus a small finders fee of course) I can send you the $$ prior to purchase. PM or email me if interested.

And make sure my buddy ordered the right thing (although I did give him the PN listed above.) He said ~$75-80, plus I have to pay tax.

I'll get you one if you really want. Send me an email jmackenz@insight.rr.com so I don't forget. Might take me a week or so, but I'd be more than happy to get ya one.

the MP5 manual says it comes standard with "INT" wipers but you CANNOT adjust the speed

That is what we are discussing. The ability to adjust the speed. The wiper module from an MPV will allow adjustable speed on the intermittent wipers in the P5.

BUMP...

Did anyone successfully get it working?
Intermittent wipers without variable? THat doesnt even deserve to be classified as being intermittent.. What were the mazda engineers smoking?
I should get mine this week... keep ya'll posted.

Mazda engineers were obviously smoking crack, as the OE setup should have been fazed out long, long ago.

And your right, it does!! Plug-n-play (many thanks to Mazda for this one.)

15 min job, and that's taking your time to not ruin anything.

Enjoy the pics. More here http://public.fotki.com/mackdaddy/mazda_protege5/

You are the best!!!!

It is so silly that Mazda didn't put that in the car in the first place. How much did it cost for the module?

You're right, it's absolute crap this wasn't on the car to begin with.

Cost me ~$76 out the door. List was $108+!!! Not a bargin, but I'm going to be glad I did it everytime it rains, that's a fact.

Jim, Could you get one for me too. For those guys that are wondering this is a good deal, I just called a local dealer and they wanted $118.40 + Tax! I'll send you an email as well.

Thanks!
