Houston RX-7 Club scenic drive October 25th (protege's are welcome)
PS: check out the link to the Jeff Haas Car Care event and garage sale if you haven't heard about it! Now on with the real post.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just following the Jeff Haas Car Care and Garage Sale the club will head to the far reaches of Northwest Harris county cutting across the countryside to Navasota then begin a beautiful trek towards the great piney woods of Sam Houston National Forest. With the sun at our backs and beautiful surroundings the club will finish up the trip back on I-45 for the drive home.
(those who need to get back to the loop, bring $2 in quarters for the toll road home!)
Details:
- Meet at Jeff Haas for the car care and garage sale event. Dorrs open at 9 AM.
- The club will depart Jeff Haas about 2:00 PM.
- The club will rendezvous with others at the northwest checkpoint at about 2:30 PM located at Hwy 290 and FM 1960. (Meet up in the Academy parking lot.)
-Promptly at 3:00 PM the group will depart the parking lot en masse and begin our adventure. Heading north along 290 out of the metro Houston area towards Hockley...to find out the rest you have to show up!!!
The drive will run about 120 miles from the Northwest checkpoint until the end of the trip at I-45. The trip should be over somewhere between 6 and 7 pm depending on how long dinner takes. The drive back to Houston from the end of the actual scenic drive should take about 45 mins or less depending on your personal taste.
Do's:
- Get gas before you leave, even the cars with the WORST gas milage should be able to make the trip. (There is a gas station at the end of the route.)
- Bring your 2-way radio if you have one, this will facilitate greater communication among the group, bring extras to share if you have them.
- Follow all posted speed limits and rules of the road. (Unless noone is watching) ;P
- I recommend haivng all of your papers in order before coming along on the trip. IE, make sure your car is registered, inspected, have your front plate mounted (har-har) and of course make sure you do not have any outstanding issues with "tha man!" These trips occasionally do arrouse the interest of local authorities, however remember if you follow the rules of the caravan you should be fine.
Do Not's:
- Drive without your brain! Maintain a sense of order and do not bring unwanted attention to yourself. If there are any questions about this one, we might need to take them offline.
- Never pass other cars in the caravan without a wave-by and clear traffic, and never pass the designated caravan leader.
- Don't be late, we will leave without you! (call if you are going to be late - 281-989-1738)
