Autocross ABS question

I read on a dsm autocross site, that if you have abs that you want to disable it for autocrossing. Anyone have experience with this.

why would you want to disable it?

while i don't have ABS, i have driven cars that do, and it helps. Well, it helped for me anyway, i guess YMMV.

The P5 ABS isn't actually too bad.
It does interfere on slippery surfaces, or when trying to brake too much while turning which you do not usually need to do anyway.

At an amateur level with amateur skills (not meant to be an insult, but let's face it, we're not professionals) I think it's better to leave the ABS intact for auto-x.

As was said, and through personal experience, the Protege's ABS is actually really good. It's not intrusive and doesn't come in too soon. It also doesn't shake the pedal too badly, so you might not even notice it when it kicks in.

This is why I asked the question to begin with. My only idea was that it was a problem specific to that vehicle. I rarely ever feel my abs kicking in. I find myself hitting the brakes hard every once and awhile to see if it still works

Even the "pro's" who have been autocrossing along time like ABS. Also known as the "Tire Saver-option" (if it was an option on your car)- if you've ever flat-spotted a brand new set of tires you know what mean!!

Unfortunately, my car doesn't have it- it was only in some rediculously expensive option package with Side Impact Airbags when I bought my car in 2000.

Later,

I have done autocross once with a car that had ABS, but I could not even tell the difference. Though, to all the events that I have been to so far, they have not been fast enough. And if you are not going that fast, you do need ABS. I have never locked my non-ABS when auto-crossing. But this is only my $.02
