Mazda Motorsports Article/Pic submissions
This thread is going to be used for fellow members to submit pictures and small (1 paragraph) write-ups on their cars. These pics and write-ups will be voted on by the members of the forum and we'll submit several into the magazine as part of way to get more exposure here in the protegey community and protegeclub.com as a whole. I would say 3-4pics tops so choose them well. When we have several responses I'll make a new thread with a poll for everyone to vote on.
I'd personally like to see everyone submit something no matter what condition your car is in. You never know what catches peoples attention. My friend Johnnie's car looks almost stock yet he had the fastest protege at our last track day. Thats worthy in and of itsself.
Submit. I'll start off to show you what I mean.

2003 Protege5-SC
Laser Blue w/ black leather
WOMP Supercharger
SPEC stage 3 clutch
OBX header
FAL slim fan
Haltech F10X fuel computer
Mazdaspeed Tokico HP struts
Racing Beat/Mazdaspeed spring set
Mazdaspeed short shifter
Mazdaspeed Audio package (doors and subs)
Mazdaspeed muffler
Kartboy Shifter bushings
Kartboy Exhaust Hangers
Brembo Slotted/drilled brake rotors
My car is a total sleeper. Everything from outward appearances makes it look stock. Nothing is visible that would give away the fact that it makes 60% more whp than stock. No gear whine from the supercharger, no front mount intercooler to indicate boost, no gauges visible from the outside. Get in ans step on the "go pedal" and hang on. Rev it past 4K rpms and watch the face of the guy in the S2000 you just passed. Speed is nothing without control so I upgraded my suspension with genuine Mazdaspeed suspension parts. It pulls and turns. Best of both worlds. All this and no extra attention from the local cops.

This is my car, a clean, stylish early 3rd gen Protege. All the work that was done to car except painting of the body kit, was done by my dad and I. The first thing I did to my car was get some Enkei rims , within 3 weeks added the Erebuni Shogun ground effects kit. The next step was to separate myself from the normal fixed up imports and stand out from them. This is when i desgined and built the custom trunk setup. I saw that this was great but not enough, so I custom fabricated my trunk to flip flop when open to give it this great look. I hope you all like my car ,because I know i love it.

My car continues to be a work in progress, but I would like to share what I have accomplished thus far:
General:
2003 Mazda Protégé5, loaded w/ leather, moon roof, 6-disc changer. The 2.0L DOHC engine delivers power through a 5-speed transmission.
Engine:
Added Wagner stainless steel header, AEM short ram intake, Unorthodox Racing under drive pulley, NGK iridium spark plugs. Exhaust exits through a Mazdaspeed axle back muffler.
Interior:
Added Mazdaspeed shift ****, Mazdaspeed floor mats, carbon fiber-look Mazdaspeed rearview mirror cover, and Audiobahn self-amplified subwoofer tube.
Exterior:
Added carbon fiber eyelids, carbon fiber-look tail lamps, chrome side marker trims that were purchased in Japan, 3D Mazdaspeed badges on the fenders
Suspension:
Lowered 1.5” using Eibach progressive rate springs
Wheels/ Tires:
17” Flik Lex wheels shod with 215 40 R17 Hankook Ventus tires
With the above modifications in place, this little wagon is a ton of fun to drive. It corners flat through curves, and the Hankook tires offer more grip than just about any curvy road in Michigan will require. Yet, despite having very little tire sidewall and 1.5” less suspension travel to take up bumps, the ride quality remains supple enough for a comfortable commute home after a long day at the office. The engine sounds wonderful, with its deep, rich burble on the boulevard. The intake has a throaty roar to it if you put the pedal to the floor, and such action is met with surprisingly decent acceleration that feels much better than stock. But some of the best qualities of this car are the things that I did not change: the excellent ergonomics, sweet shifting feel, and perfectly weighted, responsive steering. The leather interior, quality materials, and good fit and finish belie the fact that this is only the second new car I have purchased since graduating college. The Protege5 always has been a driver’s car; all it needed was a little more grip and power to really shine. Future plans include JDM intake cam and exhaust cam, and perhaps a little upgrading in the brake department (as time and money allows).
(Please note: better pics are on the way...)

General:
1999 MAZDA PROTEGE TURBO
Engine:
1.6 litre DOHC turbocharged, wagner manifold, and downpipe, t-25 turbo from a second gen eclipse, black toyota supra intercooler, all custom intercooler piping 2 inch, rising rate adjustable fmu, HKS SSQV bov, miata 240cc injectors, TURBO XS Boost controller, ACT street/strip clutch, battery relocated to trunk, full 2.5 inch turbo back exhaust, to an n1 muffler.
Interior:
on the inside i have 4 autometer gauges, air/fuel,boost,oil pressure, and water temp, as well as an autometer shift light, and an HKS turbo timer. I have also added a short shifter, with kartboy bushings, and new black floor mats to replace my old ragged tan ones,
Exterior:
for the exterior i have kept it as stock as i could, and have only added tinted windows. and the miata rims.
Suspension:
i have lowered it about 2 inches, and am searching for a set of mazdaspeed struts, i have also added a strut bar under the hood for extra stiffness.
Wheels/ Tires:
for wheels i have added 2002 16 inch miata rims, and wrapped them in kumho ecsta tires, as well as brembo cross drilled/slotted rotors, with stainless brake lines.
my whole set up is completly custom, and serves me fine, i plan on upgrading the suspension, and putting in an alarm, then im prolly going to be done with it.

This was my first "brand new" car ever and we purchased it for my birthday back in July of 2002. Back then there were not too many mods available, but we seemed to make do with what was available. I had the car out on the track for its first High Speed Touring session before I even had plates on her! Since then she's been upgraded in many ways, but she will always be "The Banana". Sometimes she gets "bruised", i.e. smash and grab, but she recovers and manages to get trophies and make little kids smile

GENERAL - 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege / Titanium Grey
ENGINE - 2.0 liter 4cyl 16 vaulve w/ Garret T-25 turbo running 6 psi
INTERIOR - Kenwood KDC-MP919 w/MP3 player and Sirius Sat. capablity.
Kenwood door speakers and 8" Kenwood sub and amp. Mazdaspeed short throw shifter.
EXTERIOR - Mazdaspeed factory body kit w/ large rear spoiler. Aftermarket fog lamps. Custom hand painted front grill. 17" Racing Hart wheels w/ 215-45-R17 Bridgestone Fuzion ZRI tires.
SUSPENSION - Racing Beat/Mazdaspeed spring set. Mazdaspeed Tokico HP struts
MODS - Cork Spot Power Series exhaust. Intercooler hardpipes (on order). Hand painted front grill. Fog lamps.
SOON TO COME - Cork Sport down pipe(coming soon), Front mount intercooler, and cold air intake.
Yes my car is almost completely stock, but I love my car more than just about anything I own. Its a fun ride to take to the local drag strip for test and tune nights. I am not planning on going over the top on the mods and the ones listed will be just about all I plan on doing. The one thing I love the most is not seeing another like it on the road since they were made in such limited numbers hardly anyone knows what kind of car it is. I had plenty of choices when I was shopping for my car, but I am glad I chose this one over all of the others.

Folks -
I vote we wrap up the submissions and get them off to the magazine. What do you think? Any objection to specifying a due date in a week or so, closing the thread thereafter, and e-mailing Mazdasport Magazine with a link? If you disagree, please share your opinion on how to proceed.
Thanks

i think if it took us this long to get 7 it'll take a while to get 10 even....Today is tuesday I say we end submissions on Friday at 5pmcst and we open the poll immediatly after. the poll will run until wednesday of the next week. We don't have a lot of traffic here so it won't take long to get all 20 votes! I say we only pick 2. The 2 with the highest votes goes...thats like the upper 32% of all submissions! hahaha.
any objections?
