MP5 1/4 Mile Times
MP5 -Auto-
Injen CAI
Custom 2.25 Catback w/Arospeed Mini-Bomb Muffler
Denso Iridium Plugs
Sport 20 Intake Cam
Mazdaspeed Exhaust Cam
Before Cams: 17.68
After Cams: 17.51
Not much of an increase but i can tell there is a difference between the stock cams and the JDM Cams. With the Stock and shifting my auto manually i would not even make it out of 2nd gear in the 1/4 mile but with the JDM Cams installed i actually make it to 3rd.

But how can you beat the stock times from proffessional drivers?
And that's not much of a difference in the 1/4 mile time, maybe you didn't launch properly or had a really good one first time out?

How many runs?
How many runs did you make stock and post-cam install? Similar weather conditions? Take humidity into account as well.
With posted numbers alone, you dropped 0.17 seconds. Not spectacular, but don't deny the improvement.
Also, the cams let the engine breath better. Did you do anthing with the exhuast or intake? When building for performance, I like to look at the biggest restrictors and work on them first. I doubt the stock cams were a major power restrictor. In the 60s, big improvements were realized with aftermarket cams. Now-a-days, the engines are closer to optimization. Without forced induction, nitrous, increased displacement, or higher compression radical gains are hard to come by.
Keep in mind that it takes awhile for the ECU to learn some of the curves. I wouldn't be surprized if you see even more gains as time progresses.
Oh, one more thing. Get your time slips on a spreadsheet and compare increments. Find out how much time it took to get: Start-60, 60-330, 330-1/8, 1/8-1000, and 1000-1/4. By doing so, you can better gauge where the power gains and/or losses occured.
Don't be discouraged.

I'd say, yes the auto tranny is robbing power. With better tires (or lower your air pressures) and a good launch you can knock off a few more tenths...although i would have expected a bit more increase with the cams...although i have no idea what the specs are for both the OEM and JDM cams, there may not be as big a difference on the P5 as there is on the 1st gen...as the 1st gen just loves cams
BTW, GNO, he mentioned that he had both intake and exhaust. But the mention of track conditions, weather conditions can also add to the equation.

Thanks GNO i'll do that. I did 7 runs yesterday i was competing in a free Bracket Race. Made it to the Third round and beat my dial in by .04. Weather Conditions were pretty much the same from my previous visits to the track in the High 50's not humid at all and the track is right at Sea Level (Florida Big Swamp) i make sure not to go through the burn out boxes when going to the line. What sucks is there was a Civic DX 1.6 Non Vtec SOHC w/Intake,Header,exhaust,5spd running the same times as me.

Total bummer JPerezz21
I would think at least 16's stock.
Not surprized, remember the power to weight ratio thing.
My 89 323 2-Door hatchback.....
Low optioned weighing in @ 2100 lbs max
SOHC 1.6 stock
4-speed
4:11 gears
With only 2 mods, increase airflow in & out.....
Funtional Cowl induction with open cone filter
2" custom exhaust system with turbo muffler
Runs mid 16's
