It's a 21 hp gain over a broken stock engine. Most of that gain was bringing it up TO stock levels. Granted, this is a few hp stronger than what stock would make. A friend of mine made 101 w/ a header / exhaust / sock intake, but his motor has about 130,000 miles fewer than mine (factory crate motor), SO I'm not really doing too bad.
EDIT: I wouldn't call the P5 'high' horsepower.....

ever get that feeling that the P5 is a lost cause? you can send yourself into SM with mods and still be ~120whp or less.. then you can turbo it, but then you risk blowing **** up.
that's it, I'm getting airbags, some heavy 18s, and a mintblue kit

that is definately true.
nope. The P5's a great daily driver, and a ton of fun. But not really fast lol.
And you can get yourself into street mod w/ a damn yugo if you put a CF hood on it. BTW are you autocrossing this year? I haven't heard a peep out of you about it.

and I'm not talking about the CF hood.. I'm talking about underdrive pulley, MP3 ECU, and FS-ZE cams which I think all put me in SM even ignoring the CF hood
p.s. is there a group buy on CF hoods for yugos?? link?? I know they make CF hoods for Volvo 240s.. so anything is possible :P

I've only done 4 events (one of those being a novice school.. but I'm just doing it for the fun so that counts for me).. haven't done one since I think June because of my front sway bar situation.

I wasn't about to swap cams to autocross :P so the turbo was the only logical route.. not that it makes me competitive at all, just induces a lot of wheelspin (still working on sourcing a spare tranny to build up with a nice welded LSD). Plus I'm competing against some wickedly fast cars in my region in that class.
#54
when in 2nd gear would you induce wheelspin with 100whp?
that's a hard choice though.. I wanna say that the AWR mounts and LSD wouldn't do all that much for you with the power being put down.. but I haven't autocrossed a Pro with an LSD so I dunno how much better it would be.. I do know for sure that you wouldn't be able to spin both wheels in 2nd gear with 100whp unless you were on an oil slick so you'd have a nice bit of grip with the lsd

I can light up the inside front in 2nd at 5000rpm--there's less than 100whp there. Although it happens less with my new suspension.
I heard that LSDs are worth mad horsepower on the track, especially if conditions are subpar.

wheelspin w/ an lsd's not the same as wheelspin w/ an open diff. W/ the open, you're breaking just the inside loose, w/ the LSD, you're @ least putting power down to that outside tire. We'd get wheelspin when I autocrossed racerxgirl's MSP in DS w/ Rcomps, but w/ throttle modulation it wasn't too bad, and it's way quicker than your 1 tire on fire
What's fun is seeing a 350hp/450lb/ft STi on 18x10.5 wheels and 315/30 r-comps breaking all 4 tires loose coming out of a corner. That car, until he blew it up missing a shift, was a damn monster. Like being strapped to a jet.

So...I think this may be the only work I've done to the car that went off without any major problems (not remembering to plug the air meter back in doesn't count LOL)
Step 1: Transport header to Rogue/RacerXGirl's place so I could work on it
I really wanted to draw a smiley on the box and put the seatbelt on
Step 2: Old manifold off. After hitting them w/ some liquid wrench, I didn't have any problems with any of the nuts for the manifold. I figured, based on my and the car's history together, I'd at least shear one of them off for good measure, but that never happened. w00t!
snap! Someone dun stole muh header
Step 3: New header in. Pre-installing the O2 sensor helped get everything in easily. Installation is reverse of removal, etc . Having 2 people really helped w/ this part (1 on top, 1 on the bottom (boom07)).
Word, new header on
It sounds a lot better. It's actually a little louder, but less harsh / raspy than before. Sounds a LOT better than it did, and is a little stronger. I likey likey. Also, having that wrap there instead of nothing before (no heatshield, etc) seems to have lowered underhood temps... however jury's still out on that one
EDIT: Only cell phone pics, sorry. I'll have to take a close up of the flange for that thing. It's purrrrdy

yep. Like I said, it IS louder, but it's a smoother sound, if that makes any sense.
EDIT: The stock header was basically an unequal length shorty 4-1 header. It's not a terrible design really, but it is a bit restrictive. And this is better
