Advice on 15,000 Mile service
#16
For my 20K service, it was $35 for an oil change and for the "Full Circle" inspection. Basically they check and top off your fluid levels and inspect the brakes, tires, battery, etc. The other $20 was for a tire rotation and alignment.

They don't call it the stealership for no reason.
Engine tune up at 15,000 miles? That's completely outrageous.
Nothing should have to be adjusted.
"Tighten chassis nuts and bolts"
That's pretty scary. I didn't know they became loose on Mazdas.

That is completely unnecessary. There's no reason to flush the oil and you should NEVER use any additives in the oil. If a car's oil has been changed regularly, there should never be a need to add anything or do any kind of engine flushing. This is all false marketing bullshit to give people a false peace of mind that their doing something to help their car.

I had just got my 15,000 mile service and that only coast me $200. I would do it myself but the only reason that i did get the servises done is because of the if you don't and its not documented and something goes wrong your SOL.

That seems too high, though I don't remember what I paid for mine. Shop around, but IMO the Mazda3 really needs regular dealer service. There are a lot of subtle things that can go wrong, and when you need them most, you want to have a good established relationship with your dealer. If something expensive goes bad just out of warranty they'll work with Mazda to get you a break. Though I love my 3, it's been less reliable and more expensive to fix than any car I've ever owned, Chevy, Honda, Nissan, VW and even a TR7, in spite of being driven gently. I'd buy it again, but wouldn't recommend it to someone with zero dollars for maintenance and service.

OK, I'm changing my tune. I was just quoted $550 for the 60k service, this right after nearly $1k of a/c repairs. I can't afford to own this car! My next plan is to do all the things I can do myself, and see of the dealer will give me a lower rate for the few things I don't feel like doing- tranny oil change, etc.
