Quit Stallin' and show us your Marx
I own a 2005 Mazda 3s 2.3L 4 door sedan; bought it brand new. It's about to hit 60,000 miles and I've started having an issue with the car stalling on me. The weird thing is its an automatic. Here are the symptoms:
-At a full stop the engine has not been holding a steady rpm. Usually stays at the 2nd or 3rd hatch mark before revving up to the 1k mark for a couple seconds. I would say the car is idling "rough"
-Not at every stop but 90% of the time the car stalls its when coming to a stop at a light or stop sign
-The other 10% is when the car is at a slow speed. Not very fun when in traffic and I've got to come to a complete stop to turn my car off/on
-When the car stalls the lights come on (check engine, etc) on my dash
-The car also sometimes "jumps" when I'm trying to stop or go like its trying to stall but then catches itself
-I've noticed a decrease in fuel economy recently. I've had the car for 5+ years now and usually get 75 miles every quarter tank. Nowadays its around 65 and I'm wondering if this has to do with the issues.
I've taken my car into a mazda service department and they've said they can't recreate the problem (can't get the car to stall on them) but it happens to me at least once a day. They also said everything looks fine which doesn't help.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this issue? Is it a faulty fuel injector or something completely different that the mazda techs are missing?
