Experience with Snow Chains/Cables

I'm looking to buy some snow chains for my Mazdaspeed 3. Winter tires are not an option since I live in southern California. I only need it for when it snows and I'm required to put on chains.

I was wondering what brands and experiences you've had with snow chains? I couldn't find a consolidated thread about chains so thought I'd start one.

I'm debating between the Thule CG9 (chain) and the SCC Super Z6 (cable). My fear is that the Thule might scratch up my wheel well or rims. Can you guys share your experiences?

Thanks a bunch!
