How to turn off TPS?

How to turn off TPMS?

I hate TPMS in my tires- almost all the vehicles I've had/worked on that had them in the tires always had issues with them.

So when I got my Mazda3, I promptly took my tires off the rims and pulled the sensors out.

Obviously the TPMS light is illuminated on the dash.... anyone know how to turn it off all together?

The only option I can think of is pull the gauge cluster and de-soldering the LED.



And before anyone says anything, yes the TPMS can be good for some people- but I check my tire pressures at least once a week so I'm confidence I can keep on top of pressures without the monitors.

the TPMS module being removed / unplugged would probably do it. Or you can simply put the TPMS back in the tires - there's no need to remove them, all you had to do is what you're about to do now, which is to disable the system.
In any case, I am not 100% sure where the module is located, but last time I looked at schematics I want to say it's in the headliner above the map lights. I'll put it on my list of thigs to look for when i'm home.
BTW, i've never had an issue with my TPMS, swapping to winter rims with another set of sensors hasn't caused any problem. The only time it has gone off is when it's cold out and the pressure dropped below the threshold - and the tire was actually low pressure at that time.

thanks for the input- I forgot about the module inside the car.. I'll have to look into that.

My experiences have been batteries dying inside the sensor or the sensors themselves crapping out- it happened to me once, and other friends. Maybe we are just the oddball people who it's happened two.

One buddy with an 05 Mazda3 always had his tire light coming on, even when tire pressure was fine. Ended up needing a new sensor. The other cars were non-mazda cars.

Having them removed also makes it easier when I change my own tires... less to worry about breaking them. haha It's just a personal preference I have.

I was right about the location. Bad news is that its the same module as keyless entry, all the wireless stuff in one location makes sense. And there's a single wire to the inst cluster, so id guess that's data and no good way to interrupt just the tpms and not the RKE. Its the white wire if you care to try something.

Thanks for looking into it... I think I'll just remove the LED from the gauge cluster. Seems to be the easiest route- it's too much of a hassle to get a dealer to tinker around in the ECU plus I'm willing to bet most won't do it since it's a safety feature.
