'07 Mazda 3 Heater Fan not working

First, Thanks for any help. Here is my problem. I have a '07 Mazda 3 Auto with climate control and A/C. About a month ago the heater fan started making noise while working. Sounded like something rubbing on the fan. It would go away most of the time after 5-10 min. Then a week ago the fan quit all together. Will not turn on. I checked the 40A fuse and the relay under the hood as well as the 10A fuse under the glovebox. The display shows everything properly, but the fan doesn't work in any position. Before I disassemble the whole dash, does anyone know if there is an easier way to check the resistor and the fan motor? Any other suggestions for troubleshooting?

Thanks again!!
