2005 3 not starting
Hey guys my wife's 05 3 is not starting. It clicks and the instrument panel comes on. The lights and radio work without any dimming and we tried to jump the battery without success so I'm assuming it's not a battery issue. I'm thinking it may be the starter any thoughts?

I know this is a little late, but I had the same problem and just had it towed to the dealership and "fixed" today..It's a 2006 3 and both the Ford dealership and the Mazda dealership that I took it to today could not duplicate any problems in their diaignostic tests.....Mazda tested the batter and it turned out dead. Funny cuz it has a 5/10 sticker on top signifiying it's only approximately 6 months old..
Unfortunately my only option was having it replaced at the dealership at the lovely cost of $175 including the battery/labor and the $60 diagnostic scan.
The car works fine thus far and the keyfob, which wasnt working consistently before, has worked since...so hopefully that fixed it.
Make sure you get the battery tested at AutoZone or Advance or where ever offers free testing...may save you $100 or so.
Good luck!

It's been many weeks, so i'm guessing your issue is solved by now... but there were recent discussions about the starter wire corroding - search the forum here. If you hear a click, can you identify where the click is coming from? This is the first step....
You may want to try whacking the starter with a broomstick or something while trying to start it. Could be bad brushes or a loose / corroded wire to the starter.

My 3 would not start again today after two trips to a dealership...Ford first, where I bought the car, and then Mazda who said it was the battery........they were incorrect. My wife was stranded in a parking today. She finally got it started after more than 15 minutes of trying...the Ford dealership that I got it from said they checked the starter and the starter wires and couldn't find anything. They are looking at it again and hoepfully will figure it out.
We've had the car for 2 weeks and 1 days and SIX times already it's failed to start...twice coming after visiting two different dealerships....one of which specializes in Mazdas.
Thanks for the heads up djs. I'll check it out too.
