2005 mazda 3 hatch---down for the count

So I am in the military and have jsut relocated back home to california, took my time and drove 3400 miles or so in about 6 days, taking my time and sight seeing and such, got to the inlaws house without a single problem with the car at all except filling up the tank at some stations as high as 3.15 a gallon for 87 ..... I drove the car fairly easy except while merging and averaged about 75-80 more so around new mexico and arizona where on I40 west the speed limit is 75 mostly!!!

Anyways, I got in early friday morning and all was well, later that night around midnight I was starving so I decided to Jack in the box, which they do not have in Virginia where I was coming from! I get in and warm the car up for about 5-10 minutes as I normally do and I am off, I drive prolly about 3-4 miles down the road and I start hearing this tapping noise kinda like the normal mazda tapping noise with a car with some mileage on it, like my 94 protege lx, or even my 03 mazdaspeed, But it sounds quite a bit louder this time around, so I pull over and pop the hood and get out and I can tell right away that there is something major mechanicaly wrong, this is my wifes car so I had to go home and tell her!!! So I get back into the car and say oh crap basically, I have no check engine lights and oil lights nothing outta place but the noise, I put her into first and take off still hearing the noise, I get to about 3.5k-4 rpm and oh man was the noise loud the normal tapping times 20 and getting worse, so I try to keep the rpms as low as possible the way back home. At this point i am really worried I have had the car for conce August 05 and only had 6,000 miles on it, and this was after the 3,400 mile trip. The dealership was closed that saturday and sunday, so this morning I took her in and took them whats was up, they had a mechanic come out and listen to the noise and he said and I qoute "Holy ****"!!! they took it back into the bay and I guess they looked at it and said that it was a rod and a bearing and that they will be replacing the entire engine, which is for the best I suppose.

The car had oil in it, as I had jsut had the oil changed and was in there even after the noise started.

The Dealership which is a Ford,Subaru,Mazda Did not even want to give me a loaner car, and they said that it might take 1 1/2 - 2 weeks to fic the car and I say it again they did not want to give me a loaner, I then went to the glove box and pulled out the lil leaflet that came with the car that explains the dashboard and gauges, service intervals and such, on the back was listed what mazda calls "transportation solution" which clearly stated that in the event of warranty repairs a loaner would be provided at no charge. The dealership stated that the detail of this is that they only provided a loaner for 3 days @ 28 bucks a day WTF, So I am going to call mazda corp and talk to them in a calm nice manner as Matty would do, and see what they offer me, if nothing I will yell and scream until they do.

Anyways, I went to enterprise and 28 dollars a day would have got me a 06 cobaly (boo) Neon (boo) civic (boo) I am coming from a 3 hatch that has a decent anout of room, and I am reloacting so I need room to carry stuff, anyhow I asked to upgrade so for 10 more bucks a day I was going to get an 06 Nissan Murano, but it was going to be about an hour wait, so they dropped me off at my inlaws place so I could wait, they called about 45 minutes later to say that they were sorry they could not get me the Nissan but instead they had an 06 Ford F-150 Slt Triton 4.6 V8 Quad Cab, I said OK i will take it, and they said, oh yeah and for the wait we upgraded you for free, SWEET, now why in the hell cant that dealership have been so nice and willing to actually give a ****....

Anyways, I know this was a really long read without much point, but I needed to let someone know...

Nope I got the oil changed at a mazda dealership actually!!!, They are replacing the engine and called and said it should be done wed, I told them take their time!!!

So I did however call mazda corp and was on the phone for about 2 minutes and they had no problem extending the loaner, said Keep it as long as your car is in the shop, I also convinced Enterprise rentals to upgrade me for free for the rest of the time I have the loaner, I took back the f-150 cause gas was killing me, was getting like 15 mpg OUCH

anyways I got an 06 Nissan Murano S AWD, and man is that thing a sweet *** ride, and its got a decent amount of power, and you can barley feel that thing upshift at all, or down shift for that matter, and according to the 7 or so inch lcd screen in the dash I was averaging about 25mpg and I have a heavy foot in rentals which I can deal with!!!! Anyhow thanks for the comments, If I may call them that
