2007 speed3 aux input capped?

test drove a 2007 mazdaspeed 3 today, has the leather bolsters seats, 6 disc changer, xenons, so i assume it is the GT model.

In the center console there is a small rectangular box that says "aux in" but where the hole should be for the wire to plug in, there is just an indentation in the plastic.. is this some kind of flimsy cover for the aux in? I didn't see if the sattelite radio was activated.. is this just a dust cover I can't figure out how to open or some factory option that has removed the aux in.

searching the internet I found a lot of threads talking about the aux in not functioning and there being a sticker in the glovebox.. but this one doesn't even have the hole to plug in and try.. anyone seen this before?

just got off the phone with mazda service, he claims the 2007 did not come with aux in jacks, and that he could install an ipod integration kit but not the aux in jacks from 2008+

does that sound right to anyone?

I thought all the 2007 and newer came with the aux jacks. I have and 05 5dr and I just installed the ipod integration kit.

I got my kit from here and installed it myself.

i'm not sure when they added it, but i've got a 2007 GT model, non-bose radio but got the 6-disk MP3 player (standard 6 speaker stereo for the GT) and i've got an aux input.
There is a little flip lid though I think it's only covering the cigarette lighter jack in the center console, and the aux is just sitting there.

I wonder if it was an early 2007 model that didn't have the aux jack, but has the plastic faceplate there as if it was in anticipation of the soon to come feature.. ?

I am buying the car in... 4 hours so I will post back here with what I find out with further hands on examination.

thanks

yea the cigarette lighter has a flip cover when you remove the lighter itself.

I had to use paintbrush to edit a real photo.. its like this:

Ok, so it turns out the aux in port was covered with a piece of tightly secured black electrical tape

I removed it and found there was a hole.. but no jack.

I removed the cupholder portion of the center console and found the input jack under there hooked up to some sort of multipin connector.

I am not sure what exactly the previous owner did.. But I plugged in my mp3 player and it works no problem.. just ran the wire through the existing aux in hole.

They probably plugged something in too hard, or pushed it sideways to break it loose from its mount.... and covered it with tape to keep anything from looking wrong. Which worked cause the dealer didn't see it or fix it.
Glad it works, and have a good time with the new ride

the jack and its attached hardware would not fit back into the space behind the aux in port in the center console.. it seems it was modified for some reason.. possibly still accidental.. i dunno but whatever it works yaaaaaa!

Glad you got it all working again. Can you post some pictures of the hodgepodge you found under your console? As to what the dealer told you (assuming you're in the US) is complete BS. All '07+ US have the ACI in the console.
