2008 Mazda3 MT having ISSUES!

Let me preface by saying how HAPPY I am that this is happening to my car 8 months after my bumper to bumper is up

Went out to start the car today, everything was fine (in garage). Went to reverse, and it sounded like there was something stuck under my car. Like metal scraping the cement floor. Get out and check. Nothing. Check the tires, nothing. Pull back in, no sounds in 1st gear.

Put er back in reverse, and same sound. No issues other than this. No lights on. Everything still works fine. ANY IDEAS?? All I am praying is that this is something that will be covered by my 5 year.................

Had husband come look in the morning, and afternoon. Sound still there. Sounds horrible. Checked the oil, yes there is oil lol. And yes, I can drive it properly lol.

Help. I need an idea of where to send my husband in to start looking with his Dad in the morning

Did you get the issue resolved yet?

My first thought was that a piece of gravel, or other debris, might have gotten caught somewhere, so that it is rubbing against something when backing up but not going forward.

Weird. Same problem. It has happened twice in the past 4 months. It sounds like a shock or strut has fallen onto the pavement and is being dragged, or as if I had run over a piece of sheet metal and was dragging it and/or caught in the front wheel wells. Horrible horrible noise.

It went away after I drove an extra block (I did a full search under vehicle...nothing).

Let me know!!

I think I know what the problem is. I have this same issue where it grinds when I put it in reverse. The clutch isn't properly engaging. Try double-clutching until you can have it looked at; it works for me.

When in reverse, the engine is being pushed in a different direction than when going forwards. So it could be an exhaust piece or something under the hood that is touching the engine when it is driving the car in reverse.
Does the sound change when you speed up or decelerate when still moving backwards?
Or is it truly sound like something is dragging and not based on how quickly you're accelerating in reverse?

Check your engine mount brackets. Sometimes if they are loose or (hopefully not) un fastened, having the transmission in reverse causes the engine to fight it differently and can cause problem sounds. Only thing is this would typically occur in reverse and in first (due to the gear ratios being drastic).
