Any one experience this?
Hey everyone,
I am kind of new here, so first off hello!
I just took delivery of my second 2010 Mazda 3 Sport 5 door. My wife got hers last fall. Love looking out in the garage and seeing my red and her blue next to each other, all we need now is the Tyco track from my childhood!
We have 14K miles on hers, many of which I have put on it, so I am very familiar with sounds and any idiosyncrasies.
I noticed the day after taking delivery on mine, that when I apply the hand brake I can hear a moaning sound. Sounds like a fuel pump.
I should note that the car is in Park, and the engine idling. Pressing the brake pedal does nothing to change this.
It is very consistent, and easily repeatable, so I took back to the dealer yesterday and had a tech listen to it. He didn’t really seem to pick up on it being a concern, and said it might be changing some pressure in the brake system.
The more I think about it, the more I don’t like it. Unless for some reason the cable is vibrating when the hand brake is applied, and creating a sound that sounds like a pump, it has to be a mechanical device.
Has anyone had this issue, or perhaps has some ideas on what this would be?
Thanks for reading this!

look at the routing of the e-brake cable, it will flex when under tension and may be hitting the exhaust or something. There should be no noises from the e-brake since it's just a cable. And while there is an effect on the brake pressure, it's all basically at zero when you're sitting there.

Thats a good idea. I will check it out once I put it on ramps. As a follow up, this past weekend I used a cheap auto stethoscope I found two bolts that come through the firewall into the engine bay that you can really hear the noise with.
I brought it up to the Mazda tech this afternoon and he told me that the bolts in question dont hold anything, and are most likely there for equipment on Mazda 3s sold in other countries.
Seems stange to me as you can touch the metal firewall surrounding the bolts and get nothing. I am sure he is correct, but it is interesting.
