Incidentally, I test drove an '07 3 and they now have a direct aux input in the center console, next to a second 12 V power plug so you can listen to AND charge your mp3 player at the same time. Woohoo! However, it is still only an audio input, and so you won't be able to use the stereo to control the mp3 player functions.

This iPod adapter
Makes iPod or MP3 as a CD changer, and play iPod or MP3 through car
Audio system, it does not use FM transmitter, but wire connection.
(Plug into the CD changer port of the Head Unit). Once it is equipped,
