AT light and check engine light simultaneously
hey guys I am somewhat new to this forum so please excuse any ignorance i may exhibit lol. I drove my 2007 Mazda3 Hatchback and everything was running perfectly. This morning, after the car had sat in my garage for over 8 hourrs, I went to start my car and it started up just fine. I immediately noticed that the AT light and check engine light were both on. This is the first time either of these two lights have ever emitted on my dash. I put the car in Reverse and there was a slight clunk after it took a second to shift into Reverse. Once out on the road I noticed that the tranny shifted straight from 1st to 3rd gear and then would not even attempt to go into 4th or 5th. I tried using the (M)anual option to shift the car and it will not work at all. I read a few articles where people had similiar problems but none were dead on to my symptoms. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Also, administrators feel free to relocate this thread if I posted in the wrong section. Thanks in advance!

I would think first thing, first. Get a code scanner and find out what codes are being fired with the AT light and the check engine light.
Obviously sounds like a transmission problem but checking the codes should always be the first thing to do.
I have this one, and while it's basic it does it's function well
I'm not sure where you are located, but you might be able to borrow a scanner from a local shop or from another forum member.
